In the video you will get a tip on how to trench on a slope.
You want to pay attention to witch side of the ditcher the dirt is going to come out. You always want the dirt to fall downhill.
If you go the other way, the dirt will fall back into the ditch and it will make it even harder to clean out.

This video explains the ABSOLUTE MUST DO TIP when installing a Hunter rain freeze sensor on a Hunter X2 Sprinkler Controller.

Who knew that you had to take out the metal jumper plate before you wired in the rain freeze sensor in order for it to actually work? Believe it or not I was one of those guys when I first got started installing irrigation systems. I had to learn the hard way, on a lot of things, and wiring up a sensor, the right way, was one of them. None of my sensors were working properly and I didn't know why until someone pointed it out that I didn't take the jumper out before I wired it in. So that leads me to the number one tip when installing a rain freeze sensor - Make sure you take out the jumper before you wire the sensor in. The jumper keeps the common connected so the controller will run, if you don't take it out, the sensor will never trip the controller and stop it from running. So your sensor will not work. When you take the jumper out and wire in the sensor, the common now runs though the sensor. When the sensor trips from rain or freezing weather, it breaks the common and stops the controller from running. This is how to properly install a rain freeze sensor.

Texas gets its fair share of cold weather and winterizing your lawn sprinkler system backflow preventer is a very important topic to address. Wether you are going to turn off and blow out your entire irrigation system or leave it on to continue to water during the winter, insulating the backflow preventer with an insulated cover is a must. This can help you avoid costly repairs like we had here. This particular backflow device on this sprinkler system froze and broke last year, although it is under an insulated enclosure. This enclosure was not enough to keep it from freezing and breaking. So this year we are using a nice backflow cover to give it the extra insulation we need to keep the backflow preventer valve from freezing. This backflow cover from Redford Supply has a velcro strip on the bottom which I like, so I can completely seal off the entire backflow preventer keeping cold air from getting in and around it. They have a lot of sizes to choose from and custom fit covers that have velcro on the sides and bottom.
Here is a link where you can look at all the different sizes and color options they have.

In this video I will show you how to find the total run times of a program in a Rain Bird ESP-LXME sprinkler controller. I wanted to show you how to find this on this controller because you have to navigate through several menus to find it. And if you have never done it before, I thought it would be helpful to show you how.

Here I explain a few things you may not have known about sprinkler heads that are used on a Golf Course. The Golf Rotor.
✅ SUBSCRIBE HERE : https://www.youtube.com/c/americanirrigator?sub_confirmation=1
One of the biggest tips I can give when it comes to golf rotors is, when you go to work on one, the first thing you want to do is turn the water off and pressure down the system or at least the pressure going to the head you want to work on. Never work on one of these head while it is under pressure. It has been fatal to some guys where they went to work on a head and it came apart and hit them in their head. These operate under high pressure, so if you are looking straight down on the head and it broke and came apart, it will act like a missile. So always turn the water off before working on a golf rotor. And if you are going to turn one on manually or adjust one, do it with your arm extended and your head away from the top of the golf head. This may save your life in the event of a malfunction.

This is a video of a Rain Bird Falcon rotor head in action. You can see how they spray and rotate. Notice also how the nozzle has a smaller opening that allows water to shoot out and land closer to the head. I really like how Rain Bird designs the nozzles in their rotor heads. The spray in very consistent throughout the entire spray pattern. These Falcons are great to use in big wide open areas and on sports fields.

If you find yourself working on an existing irrigation system, here are three tips that will help you get a job started, or maybe help you get one finished. Sprinkler systems can be hard to work on and figure out sometimes, if it is a new irrigation installation or a repair, and sometimes the only thing left that you can do to figure it all out is to dig it up.
