Veilstone City’s gym has walls that block paths and you can push the walls to make the paths easier to go through. After navigating through the movable walls, you’ll battle the gym leader. Maylene uses Fighting type Pokémon. Meditite will sometimes use Detect to avoid damage for a turn then use Confusion to confuse targets. Even if you possess Flying types, Machoke can always use Rock Tomb that lowers the target’s Speed stat. Lucario will be the hard part as it will use Force Palm to paralyze targets and Metal Claw to sometimes raise its Attack stat. After the battle, you’ll receive the Cobble Badge and a TM60 (Drain Punch). Drain Punch restores the user’s HP by half the damage the target took.

Once you have the HM03 (Surf), you can Surf on water. Try doing this for example on Route 6 to enter the other side of the Mistralton Cave. In a deep and dark cave, an old man will tell you about 3 legendary fighting Pokémon hidden across the Unova region. One of them is inside the Mistralton Cave. Save your game once you find the legendary. Cobalion is on Level 42. Its signature move is Sacred Sword, a Fighting type move that deals damage regardless of the target’s stat changes. Since you’re in a cave, Dusk Balls would be recommended. Furthermore, don’t attack Cobalion with any Dark type move or else its Attack stat will raise with the Justified ability.

During your post-game quest, explore the Relic Castle and go through the deeper parts of the ruins. Navigate some rooms and find the room with Volcarona in it. Save your game before you interact. Volcarona is on Level 70. Don’t make contact with it or else you’ll get burned due to its Flame Body ability. Because it’s Bug/Fire type, Net Balls work best. If it reaches Level 100, it will learn its signature move, Fiery Dance. The move has a 50% chance of raising the user’s Special Attack stat.
