Oddly enough, at this point I've done a handful of firearms reviews but no gear reviews! To fix that, I wanted to start out with a product that I really like a whole lot: a paracord sling for my IWI TAVOR from Sandstorm Custom Rifle Slings. Made-to-order, LOTS of options, and priced right! What more could you want? We hit the range with North American Arms' new Ranger II, a top-break Mini Revolver in .22 Magnum. It's a great little gun!...Except for a fatal design flaw.

Factory folding stocks for the CZ Scorpion EVO 3 are now shipping from CZ-USA along with 922(r) compliance kits. MSRP is $199 for everything. Eventually, when there is enough aftermarket support for the Scorp, I'm sure CZ-USA will begin selling the stocks by themselves. For the time being, they are only available with the following 922r parts:
Pistol Grip
Magazine Floorplate
Magazine Follower
Trigger (the actual blade/shoe)
Disconnector
Muzzle Attachment (flash hider)
With the factory, Czech Republic-manufactured stock, the 922(r)-relevant parts count is 16. So 6, U.S.-made parts were needed to bring that down to the maximum legal number of 10 foreign / imported parts allowed under this [ridiculous] law.

Next in the series of drop-in AR-15 trigger reviews is the 3.5 lb, single stage unit from CMC Triggers with the flat trigger shoe. It's a budget option, but how does it compare to the even less expensive Velocity Trigger?

I was finally able to get my hands on an 8-round extended mag for my Beretta Nano. The intention was to do a single video with a quick tabletop review then some shooting, but I'm going out of town for a week and decided just to get the tabletop up without further delay. I'll do a video response w/ some shooting as a follow up. [Edit: it works fine! See below for details.]
I'm hoping the mag will break in a bit with use and by being stored loaded for a little while, but I think I will choose to sand/polish the edges and sides of the follower a bit to smooth out its travel.
Update: I don't have a video ready yet, but I HAVE fired about 10 full mags through this 8-rounder without a hitch. It seems to work perfectly. I fired Federal HST in 124 grn +P, HST in 147 grn, Magtech in ~85 grn +P, USA Ammo reloads in 115 grn, Freedom Munitions reloads in 115 grn, PMC Bronze 115 grn, and Blazer Aluminum 147 grn with 100% reliability. Write-up on TheTruthAboutGuns.com (TTAG) here: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/08/daniel-zimmerman/doubletap-tactical-pocket-pistol-update/
This is probably the last installment of the DoubleTap videos!
In this video I take some high speed (120 fps is the best I can do...) footage of the DoubleTap from the side, firing 9mm non-ported, 9mm ported, and .45 ACP ported barrels so we can compare the recoil in slow-mo. How much muzzle flip is there? How much backwards recoil (push)? How much shock into hands and forearms?
I give my subjective opinion on the difference in felt recoil between the barrels and calibers as well. I can DEFINITELY say that the porting makes the 9mm more pleasant to shoot, and that the .45 is not something I would want to shoot unless I *had* to haha.
We do some concealed carry video with the DoubleTap in a front pocket, rear (wallet) pocket, and inside the waistband (IWB) to compare concealability and comfort, and draw the Tactical Pocket Pistol and fire from each carry position. It certainly does not print very much regardless of how you carry.
Hopefully the video will help somebody make a purchasing decision if they're thinking about a DoubleTap but aren't sure whether to pay the extra bucks for ported barrels. My bottom line conclusion is that if you want to use this gun at the range from time to time and have a little fun with it, you definitely want it in 9mm and you want the ported barrels. If you're carrying it for self defense and will hardly ever fire it, it may not matter. Although, if you think you might shoot it from inside a pocket or purse, or may be the type of thumbs-forward shooter to put a finger over some of the ports, you may be better off w/ the non-ported barrels. The previous DoubleTap Tactical Pocket Pistol video led to a couple users questioning what effect the barrel porting might have on velocity. Well, there's one easy way to find out! In this video, we break out the chronograph and measure bullet velocity with Federal 115 grain target ammo through the non-ported barrels and through the ported barrels. Results are in the video!
Thanks for watching, and thanks for the request! I'm always interested in ideas or questions to spur new videos. It's back! Time to test the upgraded P320 to ensure, at least to some degree, that it is now "drop safe" and check out the trigger pull quality to see how it was affected by the safety upgrade.
