A question during catechesis about the rough language of the Seventh Ecumenical Council. It’s not something that modern people are accustomed to, and it is something that greatly offends many people. How are we to understand this language, and in a larger sense, how are we to refer to and think about those who consider themselves to be Christians and believe things that the church knows are not true? In other words, what is a heretic, and what is heresy? We also discuss the recent Asbury revival, which any Orthodox Christian should understand with charity and in the light of true Christian teaching.

What is Life? A Christian must know what is life, and what is death. This knowledge is gained through a lived experience of the Christian life. Fear can blind us to this knowledge, and even choke out the life that is within us. The Maccabean martyrs, whose feast was commemorated yesterday, teach us through their lives and holy witness about the truth of life and death — what each really is, and what each consists of.

Why do we follow the Golden Rule? It is because of love. God loves, and so we, being made in the image of God, in attaining His likeness, love. There are stories of extravagant love in the lives of the saints. We explain why and how we read the lives of the saints, and then tell some of these stories of extravagant love, including events that have happened in our time. Some of the saints mentioned are St Paulinus, St Thomais of Lesvos, St Paisios of Mount Athos, and St. Irene Myrtidiotissa.

Live Doodles #008 GM Sebastian, Mark & Marcellus and a host of others
GM Sebastian was a soldier and secret Christian, not because of fear, but because of brave compassion! Learn of the great fruit from this athlete, and meet two men who started to apostatize but were encouraged by him. We know of several others who found paradise because of Sebastian. These martyrs are part of a list of martyrs I pray to every day. Find out why.
