THE LAST OF THE LAST RESELLING HAUL?! I FRESH ANTIQUE & VINTAGE Since Custer’s Antique Show in Spokane is postponed, the goodies I bought at the end of my winter show season have sat forlorn in boxes, until now. This features the other part of the haul, with some of the antique and vintage wares I’d originally planned to take west. I remember buying a lot of cool stuff, where I got it and (mostly) what I paid, so let’s look through it and see! Last episode featured smaller things, the heavy and fragile went onto this episode’s tables! I can barely lift my favorite find, a massive limestone block, inked with the ghost of a 1920s beer tray image on one side and a 1930s pinup girl on the other. A stalwart graniteware utensil set and a pair of Satsuma vases from the Meiji Period are showy and sizeable. Elegant glass swans float among Log Cabin syrup, with Pluto in orbit. A Pepsi tray asks, “One dot, or two?” This haul is a hodgepodge of fun, nostalgic and unrelated vintage items, pulling them out of a box is much different than organizing them for a show. Sleuthing out damage and tracking the agent of stains, we talk about how collectors and resellers can evaluate condition. Our one-of-a-kind Blenko Devil's Head vase is going to its forever home, and we deliver! We're on the edge of Denver, and after getting to meet a really fun viewer couple (and being wowed by their tales of Treasure Craft and Blenko pieces found thrifting), we're motivated to go shop ourselves. Colorado thrifting is some of the best anywhere, and our first stop is the last thrift stop in town, the east Denver Goodwill. Hollywood Regency style crystal compotes, teapots, 1930s Noritake and a strange looking tray all catch our eye...and that tray is by Mana, the wild potter who also ran the church whose peyote use ran afoul of the Supreme Court! Just that story alone is enough to sell this $3 thrift find for ten times the price, so we scarf it up and head east through the Great Plains. It's a long ways to the next open thrift shop, but Burlington, Colorado's Prairie Family Thrift has enough vintage goods to be worth the wait! Like many isolated thrift shops, they're pushing prices up on more recognizable collectibles (Fenton, McCoy) but overlooking other things our collectors want (John Perry duo for $5, anyone?). We pick up three good deals and head across the Kansas border. Our next thrift stop is where the World's Largest Easel and a high-style Art Deco museum draw travelers in...and where the Goodland, Kansas Church Thrift Shop stands open for business! There's plenty of fun things here, too, from Corning Radarrange dishes to a pair of 1950s toy typewriters. We do our best to ignore the forgotten $1 garage sale tag because they're still a good deal at the higher thrift store price. Last is the Hays, Kansas Goodwill, a place we catch right at closing...we'll have to start here the next time we come through! But our afternoon thrifting across the Plains turns out grand, with half-a-dozen purchases of good vintage at great prices that will help us unite them with new collectors. ———————————————————— ☀️ Do you want more info about an item you own?
