UK sources of tinder for Fire Lighting - Bushcraft tests by Pondguru
Fire steel used in this video: http://geni.us/DgmM Good mesh bags for tinder: http://geni.us/FaWBt This video shows where I found good sources of natural tinder in my local area and I also rate them after trying to light a fire using each one and a fire steel to generate sparks. Some were good, some were not and some were much better than I expected. There are obviously lots more tinder sources out there but these are the ones I identified during my walk. Thanks for watching and appreciating my videos. Please let me know if there is anything bushcraft / survival related you would like to see as I do intend making many more videos on this subject including shelter building, trapping and animal tracks and signs etc. Catch you next time. I put the cucumber in for the plecs that are in the same tank and the poor old plecs didn't get a look in. The piranhas rushed it and ate the lot!

Although this version is geared for US use I can use it no problem by using a step up converter and converter plug. The converter plugs can be bought all over the internet very cheaply and the step up converter can be found here:
Step up converter (Amazon): https://geni.us/PYRWP0q (comes with plug converters for universal use).
While the storage battery has all the features you'd expect I was particularly impressed with the 100w folding solar panel which came with this kit as it seems to have a very good efficiency / conversion rate compared to other folding panels I have previously bought.
Next sunny day I will make a separate video showing the various folding solar panel options and compare the efficiency of them as the Rockpals panel is noticeably good.
At the time of upload Rockpals only make the solar generators with US plugs but if you're outside the US that is not a problem as long as you have a converter like the type linked to above.
The prices of Rockpals gear is very good compared to the competition so they're well worth checking out.
I'm very pleased with both the storage generator and the folding solar panel so it is a good option for if (when) the grid goes down.
Thanks for watching - check out my other videos and I'll see you in the next one.

Introduction from 00:00 then night tests from 05:40 and summary at 12:27 ..... bonus at the end.
The Thrunite Catapult V6 is one serious light and how it manages to throw such a powerful beam so far is truly one of life's mysteries.
It is incredibly small, uses one 26650 battery and even on the brightest output (1700 lumens) can last for an incredible 150 minutes.
Add to that the waterproofing, ability to charge with micro USB and the fact that the battery is included in the price and you have a really good deal.
In this video I demonstrated the Catapult V6 against the TC20 simply because they have different beam shapes and the flashlights are roughly the same dimensions, not to prove that one is better than another since they both have different applications - the TC20 is a wonderful flood light for illuminating a wide expanse and the Catapult V6 lacks the spread of illumination but can throw the beam an incredible distance for maximum spotting range.
Watching the video back I realized that I made a couple of mistakes - one was saying that the TC20 was 3700 lumens when it is 3800 and the other mistake was not mentioning the lumen output of the low, medium and high settings which can be viewed below.
(I have a terrible memory....)

All the Biohome media can be bought here (I supply worldwide):
http://www.filterpro.co.uk (also has links to other suppliers).
This media combines the ultra porous structure of Biohome mini ultra with the added trace elements found in Biohome plus to create the Ultimate filter media.
With the available surface area supporting aerobic bacteria and the protected inner core supporting anaerobic bacteria, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are processed effectively. Works well at high and low flow rates so forget about having to force the volume of your aquarium through the media 'x' amount of times per hour as you would with other types of filter media.
Perfect for both fresh water and marine systems, biohome filter media will replace any ceramic or plastic media in external canister, overhead, trickle, shower, hang on or sump filters.
The added trace elements and open pore structure in Biohome Ultimate offer the ultimate home for all beneficial bacteria, cutting the time taken to establish a strong fully functional bacterial colony a matter of 2-3 weeks and include the following:
Silica, Titania, Alumina, Ferric Oxide, Lime, Magnesia, Potash, Soda, Phosphorus Pentoxide, Chromium Sesquioxide, Manganic Oxide, Zirconia, Hafnia, Zinc Oxide, Barium Oxide, Strontia, Stannic Oxide, Sulphur Trioxide. (from XRF analysis)

Filter media does not get any better than this but for an extra quick set-up time each order taken from Ebay or through the website has free gel filter starter balls (5 per kg) to rapidly seed the filter with live bacteria.
Forget about adding all sort of sachets and monthly chemical absorbers to your filter. Keep it simple and arrange the filter correctly with the best filter media available.
Many of the filter products available are a waste of time and money and will simply mask the problems caused by an ineffective filter. See this video on setting up an external canister filter for directions on how to get the most out of your filter and have it working at maximum efficiency:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szrUlHTW5Zo
Simply protect the media with good graded foams and fine particle matting / pad to remove suspended solids (which clog any filter media) and your media will give you years of service.
The test in this video is to demonstrate how easily the water can find the inner structure of the media as you can say your media has the largest available area for bacteria but if the water can't get there what is the point?. It is not part of a full comparison between filter differen
