The bridge is out, and we can't find the highway sales anymore. Fortunately, Xeno says he knows a great antiquing stop nearby that I haven't seen, out in the middle of nowhere. I'm intrigued! In a once-abandoned 1920s schoolhouse, Irish Acres Gallery looms by a country road near Versailles, Kentucky...and it's full of things that might be just as home in its palatial French namesake! This place is amazing, a vast emporium of real antiques and valued vintage that offers a feast for the eyes--and a lot of great old things we haven't seen in years. From the elegant foyer to the graciously overstuffed anterooms, this place offers a step into an opulent past that stands ready to furnish future graceful homes. Italian chandeliers, gilded pier mirrors and highly carved mahogany cabinets are festooned with Nippon and Old Paris vase sets, Murano perfume bottles and many other tremendous examples of elegant antique decorative pieces. Waylande Gregory pottery, quality Blenko glass and vibrant oil paintings accent room after room filled with painted French furniture, 1880s music boxes, American Gothic revival pieces, even a room full of artist bronzes and studio pottery! This is a great place to explore and learn hands on about things they have in abundance here that we rarely see in antique stores today; and when we need a break, our gracious hosts treat us to their trademark 'Nonesuch Kiss' ice cream dessert in their Glitz Restaurant, a gleaming underground eatery with incredible atmosphere in a once dusty basement! 30 GARAGE SALES! | RESELLER VINTAGE | GOLF CART SHOP WITH ME The shock of getting up at sunrise is the price we pay to be first to shop at this first-ever community-wide garage sale at this huge over-55 development! But can you find antiques in a trailer park? With 30 different sales (including an estate sale and a few moving sales) among a group of seniors, we hope there's a chance we'll find some vintage buys we can flip for a profit. We start on foot at a friend's house, where a Victorian frame, vintage shakers and a gold dresser box with a surprise start our shopping quest. Next door, a full-on estate sale proffers yesteryear's furniture and tshotchkes, kitchenware and even freebees that all have reseller profit potential (and at prices as little as a quarter apiece!). We pass a lot of good new items in boxes that our non-vintage resellers should come grab as well! Another friend rides off with stacking chairs in her golf cart, then comes back to whisk Beau the poodle and I around to a moving sale (Hall China teapot for $5), a junk sale (four highway signs at $5/each) and a bunch of other vintage bargains. We run into another "friend" from my book that I haven't seen at a garage sale in years! We also run into a great way to illustrate real versus fake McCoy frogs, and a few other good examples to help us tell vintage from reproductions. Besides the sheer whimsy of shopping by golf cart in a gated community, the most fun and surprising part is how easy it was to accumulate a fun pile of reseller goodies at garage sale prices...all in one place! Community sales are an awesome way to shop for reseller fare (and we might even keep the triangular 1960s shelf for awhile). THRIFTING ANTIQUES | SHOP WITH US! | VINTAGE RESELLER VLOG The thrift stores aren't great in this town, so we go to the place where the good stuff can be found at prices we can flip for a profit! Come shop with us at a packed vendor mall, where resellers can find vintage and antiques in much greater quantity than thrift stores...often at better bargain prices! Finders Keepers is a favorite Midwestern US multi-vendor mall, where everything from candy and new goods sells alongside spaces filled with true antiques and vibrant vintage wares. We comb this place carefully, turning up everything from scarab jewelry to Red Wing pottery at prices that make it easy for us to turn a profit reselling them! This place is big, a former grocery store with aisles upon aisles of used goods, making antique shopping for resale much easier than in the town's thrift shops! The selection comes to places like this because there's no antique malls in town, so we find everything from Limoges oyster plates to obscure Fire-King patterns and a wild Bjorn Winblad vase for Rosenthal that reminds us how fun vintage urns really are!
