Die grundlegende Idee hinter dem Ganzen ist es, Gothic zu einem fertigen Spiel zu machen. Dem Original merkt man an vielen Ecken und Enden an, dass es niemals 100% fertig geworden ist. NPCs mit Eigennamen, die keinen eigenen Dialog haben oder Höhlen die komplett leer sind, die Liste lässt sich mit dutzenden weiteren Beispielen erweitern. An genau dieser Stelle setzt die Definitive Edition an. Das Originalspiel soll abgerundet werden und dem Spieler ein besseres Erlebnis bieten.
