Mr Pickwick | Abandoned Portsmouth FC Pub
This Victorian pub has seen much change throughout its lifetime. Originally a Longs Brewery pub known as the Cremorne Gardens, it became the Mr Pickwick during the 1970s. The present exterior of the pub conceals some ornate tiling that once decorated the front elevation. Inside can be found one very large bar room, roughly L-shaped, with a ground floor extension to the south elevation. Much of the original plasterwork and ceiling roses can still be seen. Two ornately-carved original fireplaces can be found at either end of the house, plus a third, brick-built example, in the extension. The pub is very sports orientated and customers have a choice of darts, pool and table football. The pub is also home to its own golf society. There is lots of room for standing customers - necessary when Portsmouth FC are playing home matches. A small number of picnic benches can be found outside, in the pub's own car park.
Plans for 12 homes have been submitted on the site of the former Mr Pickwick pub on Milton Road, just around the corner from Fratton Park where last orders were called in 2017.
A mix of one and two-bed flats plus a larger three-bedroom family flat are proposed, as well as parking for 13 cars.
The most recent application comes after previous rejected designs were branded 'bland' and criticised for the parking layout.

St Joseph's Orphanage was built on Mount Street, Preston in 1872 for local Roman Catholic girls. In 1877, the St Joseph’s Institute for Sick Poor, also known as the Mount Street Hospital, was added to the site. In 1933 the hospital was extended and in 1939, it became recognized as a training centre for nurses. The hospital closed in 1982 and then operated as a care home from the mid-1980s until 2003.
Having stood empty for more than a decade the site has been vulnerable to vandalism and lead theft which has resulted in widespread water ingress and fire damage in some areas. Recent investigations have revealed that the historic buildings are extensively infested with dry rot and large parts of the site are deemed too unsafe to enter.

in this explore we are back in Dover and we explore the ST Martins Deep Shelter.
location History:
St Martins Battery was first built in 1876 to provide protection to Dover from the expected French invasion and was first outfitted with three teniinch rifled muzzle loader, the battery was then closed in 1909. In 1940 the site was reopened as an Emergency Coastal Battery, it was modified and renamed the Western Heights Battery; it was outfitted with three six-inch breach-mounted guns – hence the modification to the site as the loading style differed from the earlier method.
As well as the reopening of the site, a deep shelter was dug to provide protection from any German bombardment for the one hundred and forty personnel who manned the battery. The deep shelter was an extension to the Victorian magazine and was of corrugated iron construction; in recent times there has been damage due to fire and a small collapse of the chalk tunnels.
The battery has been closed since 1947 and has since been preserved.
