Full video coming soon, but we're in the middle of some building work and can't take proper shots until it's completed.
It will feature Komachi and Hayabusa (plus 2 other trains ...) on the passenger loop over the 2-levels of automatic transfer station and going around the layout. Also, extra-long cargo train, and a Plarail expo train on top level.
Coming in July!

We now have a few of those Vintage TomyTrain sets from the 1980's and decided to build a larger layout with the working trains. Those are pretty tired and will need some further repairs (split cogs, wheel rubbers worn, weak motors) but we've got 4 that could be used for this video.
The first train is the freight train running in two loops between a lumber yard and an empty loop on the other end. It's joined with a point-rail to the large layout, but due to the tight timings and pace of the trains, they never go onto each other's tracks.
We then have a Calais - Folkestone train that automatically reverses at the end of the line. The Folkestone stop is near another train platform where the red locomotive stops.
The Red locomotive runs on a track that has 3 routes controlled by the automatic junction. It runs the leg between the main station building (Dover) around the far end of the layout, through Folkestone, and back into Dover. There's a signal at Folkestone platform, that's battery operated and changes between green and red as directed by the lever.
It shares the layout with the Blue maintenance train. It's the strongest unit out of those 4, so it features an incline, goes over the Folkestone platforms, and then back into Dover station (via the point-junction shared with the Freight train). If the Red train is stuck at the station or junction (due to worn rubbers) it will give it a push and then go on a small round track and back into the station. This makes the timing of the Blue train almost perfectly in sync with the amount of time the Red train needs to go around its track.
We will repair these trains in the future and make another vintage-themed track.

A purpose built, dual-loop track layout, with switching train stations to allow 5 trains to run at the same time in both directions.
Due to the differences in speed trains, and distances between stations not being equal, it still requires some input. That's where we get 2 Track Masters, 1 at the stopping points to control the separation of trains on each loop, and 1 at the 3-way junction to allow trains to stop on separate tracks.
It was quite challenging at first, as we were getting crashes at the Roundabout Station, but also trans running into each other on the Clockwise, longer loop. Until we worked out a system after a few evening of test runs.
The build also took a few evenings, as we tried to expand the track and add passing/stopping areas in the best locations.
I think due to the multi-level, dual-loops, running in opposite direction and passing each other in various places, this was the most complex layout we've built so far.
Hope you enjoy!

Adam plays a new train-themed game as we were unable to do a large Plarail build recently. Hopefully, we can start designing something this weekend!

All trains can be directed to any of the tracks, but keeping them from running into each other needs all hands on deck :)
