Swales in the Suburbs Work!

For those who wondered, small scale swale system still work to improve soil tilth and increase the amount of organic matter in your soil. Here I show you my hugelkultur garden beds in my suburban lawn, and the difference that swales and a little rain make.
I currently have 2 beds that I'm building in my yard. One has a shallow swale above it, and the other does not. The one with the swale has *much* more organic matter in it and at a greater depth than the one that does not. Keep in mind this swale is only about 4" deep.
It doesn't take much to bring life to the soil.
