Coronavirus: Public Panic & Market Carnage

The lockdowns predicted in yesterday's video update are already starting to happen.
Italy, Spain, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Israel and a growing number of countries are locking down their borders and tightening restrictions on movement.
More and more US states & cities are banning public gatherings and forcing closure of non-essential businesses. Rumors of a coming national curfew circulated this morning.
Meanwhile, food and pharmacy shelves are being stripped bare . Even the slow-movers are now panicking.
A similar panic has gripped investors. The stock market is experiencing a historically vicious sell-off -- after falling 24% by the end of last week, the Dow is down another 13% today.
So far, no matter what the Federal Reserve and world government's have pledged, the market hasn't been convinced it will be enough.It's a global fire sale; investors want the safety of cash. And they're selling everything to get it.Such is the psychology of crowds. When the herd is spooked a stampede ensues.
And this is with less than 4 thousand confirmed coronavirus cases in the US. How will the herd react when that number is 4 million?

OK...despite more worldwide infections than ever, the WHO has decided to stop using the (technically very accurate) term "pandemic" to describe covid-19, presumably because they don't want to scare folks.
The CDC is claiming that the US is not seeing "community level" spreading of the virus. But of course it isn't, because it's NOT testing at the community level. And only 3 US states currently have the capacity to run such tests, due to faulty kits being provided to the other states.
Then there's State Department's botched rescue of US citizens stuck on the Diamond Princess cruise ship, during which poor safety controls allowed 25 more folks to get infected on the flight back to the US.
And these are the authorities we're depending on??
China, meanwhile, is lowering response levels in several provinces, setting the stage for workers to head back to the factories. BUT...they've postponed the National People's Conference. So, it's still too serious for the the 'important' people to be in public, but the plebes have nothing to worry about??
China is facing a lose-lose decision: maintain their widespread quarantines to contain the virus, but kill their economy? Or send people back to work, and risk infecting millions more?
Today, the markets *finally* started to show concern for the hit global trade is taking from this growing crisis. If the euphoria pushing markets to new highs is dissipating, there is an awful lot of empty space below today's asset prices compared to their fundamentals-based valuations. Translation = the markets can fall a LOT farther from here.
To reiterate our guidance: the time to prepare -- physically and financially -- is NOW. As China, Italy, South Korea, Iran and other countries are showing us, a government lockdown happens swiftly, slamming shut your window to act.
Use the time you still have as the precious gift it is, and strengthen your preparations.

Two years ago, we interviewed John about the expected implications should a pandemic of similar scale break out in today world. Little did we realize at the time how quickly his insights would prove relevant.
John was the only non-scientist to serve on the US government’s Infectious Disease Board of Experts and has served on advisory boards for MIT’s Center for Engineering System Fundamentals and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He has consulted on influenza preparedness and response to national security entities, the George W. Bush and Obama White Houses, state governments, and the private sector.
John remains quite concerned at how the world’s readiness for a pandemic is woefully lacking, exacerbated by the hyper-connectedness of our modern society (i.e., the ease and speed with with people can travel).

Another day, another fight over hydroxychloroquine (HCQ)...
On the data side, more and more evidence mounts that not only does HCQ make a positive difference in lessening the impact of covid-19 (when delivered early along with zinc and an antibiotic like azithromycin), but it also appears to work effectively when taken in advance of infection as a preventative measure.
On the headline side, it's "dangerous", it will "KILL you", it has concerning side effects, and it's akin to taking "camel urine" (seriously...that's a recent headline)
The Keystone Kops-esque WHO just recently came out with a warning, despite having the previously-published stance for years: "Despite hundreds of millions of doses administered in the treatment of malaria, there have been no reports of sudden unexplained death"
And so the battle for truth on the airwaves and internets rages on. Which is extremely sad, as there remain important developments we need accurate actionable information on.
For example, China's researchers are reporting that covid-19 is mutating fast there, with different strains producing differing pathologies. How can we expect to mount effective responses against new developments like these when there's such disagreement on basic facts these days?

The most hated stock market rally still has room left to become truly despised, according to Martin Armstrong.
Armstrong is an economic forecaster, former hedge fund manager, monetary and foreign exchange currency expert and a deep student of history. He has advised central banks, powerful political leaders, and has testified before Congressional committees on economic cycles and monetary and currency issues.
At present, he’s extremely concerned about the gross distortions central bank policies have had on the global economy. Excess liquidity has caused asset prices to become recklessly inflated while enabling otherwise-doomed companies to persist by feeding off of the cheap and plentiful capital.
But while Armstrong predicts this “one giant mess” “is not going to end nicely”, he warns that things may get a lot more deformed, especially in the US, before the break point is reached.
With so much of the rest of the world beginning to succumb to the arriving global recession, capital is fleeing towards the relative safety and positive returns offered by America’s financial markets. As a result, Armstrong sees the US stock market continuing to power higher from here, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average potentially tagging 35,000 by 2021.
