The kit is part of a group dedicated to DaVinci. It features some of more famous mechanical designs. But as much as I like the aerial screw one, I could not quite get as enthusiastic about the others... maybe somebody can provide insight into what makes them special? As models, I mean.
The 555 is probably the most well known integrated circuit out there... and when I hit 555 subscribers on my channel, I just couldn't help thinking: That calls for more celebration than any higher number, being an electronics and technology focused cat.
So the idea was born to do a special about the timer... create a circuit that produces 555Hz or similar... but then I found out that I actually knew very little about that chip. So I turned the idea into an experimentation project to help me understand that little 8 pin chip a bit better!
I hope you enjoy my poking and prodding!

Disclaimer: most of the footage has been shot over two years ago and might seem a bit odd here since it predates the whole "tinkering" series.
I also had some recording issues, mostly while building the cyclone, and so I could not show all the details I would have loved to show... Sorry for that, but I think my video footage backlog still is worth making the odd video.
The mentioned video that inspired the cyclone can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-xhYnWDCd0
I am using an old shed for a workshop, so once I'm done with all the backlog I created, the woodworking things should be more summer-y and anything else more winter-y since I cannot heat that place to a comfortable temperature. You can see the summer/winter footage by the length of my work clothes sleeves :)
I am not affiliated with any of the companies shown in the video. It's just generally my price range of hobby equipment that was available in my area when I needed it first.

This is my first try in a new format idea: I occasionally repair or improve some things along the way which isn't quite up for a whole video in itself. You know: spend five minutes fixing something doesn't yield a 10-15 minute project video, especially since the voice over and puppetry parts are taking hours as such.
This format should be limited to about 30-60 second long, background music only edits of smaller things that come across my desk, including some subtitles or text cards to clarify some things if needed. Also trying some new things in the video editing side :)
Please leave feedback about the format in the comments! Thank you!

During late summer of 2023, I found an auction for a Heathkit T3 Signal Tracer; These usually go for big bucks but the listed one was a bit... well... "used and untested" would be the best description, so I got it for a relative low amount. Let's find out what horrors it holds! I did not expect this to be a two-part project, but there were indeed quite a few things to take care of...

Re-Upload as short, cause YT App keeps breaking the upload and turns it into a regular video; Guys! Bug! Fixit!
Anyhow... I've seen these "button covers" mostly on old printers and similar devices. The cover on the two HP printers I got recently was worn through and I kept thinking: where do I get a new one? Well, this is certainly a solution; Not "perfect", but "very good" for home use for sure!

As announced, I did one of my pending model kits. A VW Beetle in German police design. Back in the 70s and probably early 80s, police actually did use these. This particular model is 1:24 scale, done by Refell Germany. Lots of details on the engine and inside, some on the suspension. Took about three weeks of spare time to complete.

Repair #3: Desk Clock
There's a lot of little things that my grandfather left my mother and me. Most of which were aged to a point where they are beyond repair, as was the case with the desk clock he had sitting in the back room. It was wood worm infested and - whenever it would work for a bit - crumbled when the chimes hit. So my mom decided it should get thrown away. I saved the clockwork back then and built a new case; because I kind of like the memory of these chimes... childhood memories and such, you know...
Anyhow, the clock worked for quite a bit until it stopped... this is my attempt at repairing and finishing up the project from early 2015.
Here's the original project's LiveJournal post: https://atkelar.livejournal.com/72313.html

Something mechanical this time: A hand cranked drill that I inherited from my other grandfather (vis a vis the one with the desk lamp from the previous video)
The chuck was missing springs and had some rust, the old grease/oil was rancid and the outside looked worn out. Cleaned, painted and fixed the missing springs with at least temporary ones until I may be able to find the ideal ones...

A little something I came up with, as a parody around current events... at least right now it's still parody.
I didn't have enough time to finish this so the lighting is not the best I could have done and there's some "close ups" missing that I would have loved.
