Are we living in a Patriarchy? (Jordan Peterson vs. Angela Nagle)
This video will ask the question “Do we live in a patriarchy?” In order to answer the question we examine the ideas of three different cultural critics: Angela Nagle, Jordan Peterson, and Nina Power.
Is Capitalism a patriarchal institution? Will we be free of it if we get rid of Dad?
A Deleuzian guide to reading the world, Daniel Coffeen's "Reading the Way of Things" is an exploration of the ideas of McLuhan, Deleuze, Guattari, Merleau-Ponty, Foucault, Burroughs, and more. It is a book that aims at getting the reader past teleological interpretations and questions, letting the reader in on new ways of doing criticism as well as new ways of going, being, and thinking.

"How do you quantify what makes a space safe & nurturing to create in?
For Repeater Radio's August 2023 relaunch, Ayrshire artist Ruaridh Law asks 30 of the station's artists plus colleagues, peers and friends, to help answer precisely that. From sofas to tables, well-appointed studios to a sunlounger beside a pool, a selection of musicians, writers, artists, DJs and broadcasters share 1 minute clips of their spaces, along with occasional musings on what makes these spaces unique to them. Amongst the many persepctives, one shines through; an artist needs a place they can be the best and only version of themselves, a place of true expression. Over 30 minutes of experimental film and audio, these havens are laid out and allowed to have the magic shine out through them.

In this video, Matt McManus interviews Ronald Beiner on his book "Dangerous Minds: Dangerous Minds-Nietzsche, Heidegger, and the Return of the Far Right."
From the Book Jacket: In Dangerous Minds, Ronald Beiner traces the deepest philosophical roots of such right-wing ideologues as Richard Spencer, Aleksandr Dugin, and Steve Bannon to the writings of Nietzsche and Heidegger—and specifically to the aspects of their thought that express revulsion for the liberal-democratic view of life. Beiner contends that Nietzsche's hatred and critique of bourgeois, egalitarian societies has engendered new disciples on the populist right who threaten to overturn the modern liberal consensus. Heidegger, no less than Nietzsche, thoroughly rejected the moral and political values that arose during the Enlightenment and came to power in the wake of the French Revolution. Understanding Heideggerian dissatisfaction with modernity, and how it functions as a philosophical magnet for those most profoundly alienated from the reigning liberal-democratic order, Beiner argues, will give us insight into the recent and unexpected return of the far right.

Fredric Jameson is one of the most important Marxist literary critics. We are joined by Anna Kornbluh to discuss his theory of postmodernism and particularly his work on psychoanalysis and Marxism. We analyze Jameson's incredible essay "Pleasure: A Political Issue" which looks at the relationship between psychoanalysis and Marxism.
This conversation gets at the heart of the Marxism-psychoanalysis relationship, what the stakes are, what psychoanalysis offers to Marxist analysis and more. Anna Kornbluh's research and teaching interests center on Victorian literature and Critical Theory, with a special emphasis in formalism, Marxism, psychoanalysis, and theory of the novel. She is the author of The Order of Forms: Realism, Formalism, and Social Space (University of Chicago 2019), Marxist Film Theory and Fight Club (Bloomsbury "Film Theory in Practice” series, 2019), and Realizing Capital: Financial and Psychic Economies in Victorian Form (Fordham UP 2014).

Until recently, to most Americans, the spectrum of legitimate political discourse revolved around two ideological poles: liberalism and conservatism. Indeed, over the course of the fifty-year counterrevolution that began with the destruction of the radicalism of 68, liberal emerged as a slur on the political right. Even the Democratic Party - the institutional manifestation of the left flank of capital – seemed to shy away from the term ‘liberal’ as the notion that the United States was fundamentally a center right country came to be naturalized common sense amongst the beltway establishment. However, with the development of a vocal, albeit politically feeble, social democratic movement over the last five years, liberalism is facing challenges from the left. Indeed, today when someone utilizes the term “lib” in a derisive manner, it is very often from the perspective that liberalism represents a rightist ideology. At the same time, elements of the conservative movement - in particular those who advocate free market orthodoxy and bloviate endlessly about phantasmic threats to free speech - have sought to recast themselves as “classical liberals”. Yet, many Americans remain fundamentally ignorant of the complex historical relationship between liberalism and socialism. What is the relationship between these two ideological trends of the so-called left? How did these tendencies relate to one another historically? And are they mortal enemies or embittered kin?
