The Jet Engine capabilities were changed so you need to be a little less aggressive in your orbital ascent, however it's still possible to get into orbit with plenty of space fuel. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdmNv2ZyMmU
All those interplanetary missions are in action - setting space probes to arrive at Eve & Moho, Sending the Sleipnir out to Jool and bringing the Prometheus into Moho orbit, with barely enough fuel to land.

Some friends suggested I try this game so I thought I'd go straight into the game and document my first 20 minutes or so of play time.
WARNING: I have no clue what I'm doing so I'm not exactly performing at my best, I don't think I present the action at its most frenetic.

SN2016aps can claim to be the brightest supernova ever observed, while it only looked like a faint 18th magnitude transient star from earth it was 3.5 billion light years away, and up close it outshone its parent galaxy by 200 times. Most interestingly it's a candidate for a supernova mechanism that's different from other core collapse supernovae - the pulsed pair production instability where the star gets so hot it starts generating electron-positron pairs in the core, reducing the core's ability to resist gravity.

Now is the moment of truth where we slow our orbit using a combination of rockets and the planet's atmosphere to bring us into a stable orbit. After this we start deploying probes to the planets moons and surface so we can get more information about our possible landing targets. (more lander stuff coming soon!)

We've seen hundreds of rockets keel over and crash despite the best efforts of the pilots to keep them pointed at the heavens. If your rocket is exceeding the weak control capabilities of the capsule you need to redesign it to include stability and control features -
* Aerodynamic control surfaces like Wings and Fins
* Vectoring engines
* Reaction Control Systems (RCS)
* Auto Stability Control Modules

In the last 6 months there's been a lot of attention paid to a Russian Satellite Kosmos 2543 which was launched in November 2019 as a sub satellite of Kosmos 2542. This is part of a highly classified program, but observations of its behaviour from the ground show that it's likely involved in matching orbits with and inspecting other satellites. In mid July it launched an even smaller object at relatively high speed leading some to suggest that this object is a missile designed to attack other satellites.
As of right now, there's nothing that's a violation of international space law, but that hasn't stopped complaints from NATO members.

There's been a lot of reporting about a Chinese plan to test an 'artificial moon' as a means to provide sunlight to cities in China.
I think the claims are overblown possibly due to poor translation, or possibly because people involved want to make it seem more amazing than it actually is.

Meteor Crater is one of the only craters on Earth which resembles the classic impact craters we see on the moon. It's a recent impact crater in a region of the planet which hasn't seen a lot of erosion which contributes to its preservation. I was fortunate enough to get a chance to hike into this crater along with researchers who study the asteroid impact problem, giving me a rarely seen view of this unique structure.
Thanks to Meteor Crater for enabling this
