According to Peter, the only valid reason to buy Bitcoin is thinking the bubble will get much bigger before it bursts. Most #Bitcoin buyers don't know it's a bubble so they will never sell. But since most who do will be unable to tell when it's popped, they're also unlikely to get out with a profit.

The general theme was my book and the connection between the things that matter to humans – with particular emphasis on what mattered to Alfred Nobel when he set up the prize. We also discussed what matters most to Jim Simons, especially his appearance on my podcast with attention to long-term human survival. Connected to the point above, spoke about the quest for a theory of everything and my recent exchanges with Wolfram, Weinstein, etc.
We discussed the Jewish people... about what Luis suggested Wigner might have referred to as “the unreasonable effectiveness of the Jews” in physics and in virtually every branch of human activity? We concluded by discussing the similarities between Talmudic and Scientific methods.
Luis is the founder and director of the European Institute of Science in Management (www.eism.eu). He studied quantitative psychology under Richard J. Herrnstein at Harvard and currently conduct cross-disciplinary research in management, social choice theory and fundamental physics. For most of his career he's worked to bring Richard Herrnstein’s ideas regarding intelligence and class structure into a unified theory of political and economic management. To that end, he's written four books, including “The Definitive Management Book" and "A Brief and Intuitive Theory of Everything". He's launched a channel to engage with the general public and with leading intellectuals about the scientific foundations of human flourishing: you can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/user/educaprotv

If there's one key factor securing America's economic prosperity and military superiority, it's not oil; it's chips.
No, not the chips we all love to snack on during movies, but highly efficient computer chips. Chips that power pretty much everything from our military machinery to our iPhones.
The United States held the top spot in crafting the fastest chips on Earth for a long time. But countries like Taiwan and China are catching up fast. This unfolding race that will determine our future has been thoroughly chronicled by today's guest, Chris Miller, in his book Chip War.
Wanna know what he found out during his research?

How does a Nobel Prize winner create ideas and bring them to life? What can starlings teach us about physics? And what is a spin glass?
Here today, to take us on a fascinating journey from bird flocks to condensed matter physics is none other than Nobel Prize laureate Giorgio Parisi. Giorgio is an Italian theoretical physicist and author of many wonderful works, such as In a Flight of Starlings: The Wonders of Complex Systems, which we will discuss in detail in this episode.
Giorgio is an incredibly inspiring mind who has contributed so much to our understanding of nature and complex systems, and it was an honor to interview him!

#Antimatter #QuarkGluonPlasma #Dirac Antimatter has fascinated physicists since it was predicted by Paul Dirac in 1928 and soon after observed by studying the tracks of cosmic ray particles in a cloud chamber, in 1932, by Carl Anderson. Naively we might expect that the amount of ordinary matter, of which we are comprised, should be equal to the amount of antimatter. Yet we don't observe that...if we did, If antimatter and matter were produced in equal amounts in the universe, they would have annihilated and just left radiation behind. we wouldn't be here to wonder why we do not observe it! The results from RHIC don’t answer that question directly. But exploring asymmetries in extreme matter, similar to the type that prevailed shortly after the Big Bang, gives scientists a way to test ideas about how a symmetry violation underpinning and illuminating how the matter-antimatter asymmetry arises at a fundamental level.
Physicists from the STAR Collaboration of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science user facility for nuclear physics research at DOE’s Brookhaven National Laboratory, recently showed how the strength of the magnetic field generated in certain collisions affects the particles streaming out. This is important because, as the researchers say, In heavy-ion collisions, an exciting possibility is that regions may be briefly formed in which parity (P) and charge-parity (CP) symmetries are locally violated by the strong interaction. This would lead to an imbalance between the numbers of right- and left-handed (anti-)quarks. It is demonstrated that if a sufficiently strong (electro-)magnetic field exists in such a region (as it may be in off-center heavy-ion collisions, generated chiefly by the protons in the two nuclei the net effect would be a separation of charges along the direction of the magnetic field. This separation of charges is called the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME). If an observation of the CME could be clearly
established in heavy-ion collisions, it would imply the existence of these CP-violating regions, the restoration of the approximate chiral symmetry in the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) medium, similar to that thought to prevail in the first few seconds after the Big Bang.
The experiment failed designed to look for evidence of a predicted physics phenomenon known as the “chiral magnetic effect.” It didn’t come out as initially predicted, but that is ok, since it helps us understand CP-violation a bit better and that helps us understand matter-antimatter asymmetry, since CP violation is a prerequisite for Baryogenesis (one of the three Sakharov conditions).
But even without a definitive signal supporting the existence of the chiral magnetic effect (CME), the experim

Previously on Thirty Minute Thesis I've explored alternatives to string theory, such as Loop Quantum Gravity. But I realized I hadn't yet explored the basics of string theory itself. So in today's video I ask: "What would It take for String Theory to move beyond the realm of pure math, Into verifiable territory"? Is the fact that many 'discoveries' in string theory revolve around the math of theory itself or already disproven facts about our universe -- such as the fact that AdS/CFT correspondence relies on a negative cosmological constant, in contrast to the observed positive cosmological constant -- already fatal to this once-most-promising of all theories? Or could it be salvaged and, if so, how? Do we need new predictions, or would even a retrodiction suffice?
This episode of Thirty Minute Thesis explores the experimental minimum -- the very basics that any purported theory of everything should aspire to achieve. We discuss the basics of the theory as delightfully explicated by Ed Witten in Physics Today and compare it to other approaches, such as Loop Quantum Gravity and more.
Welcome to another episode of Thirty Minute Thesis -- a solo deep-dive into a fascinating topic in cosmology, physics, or science itself. Today's video explains what String Theory must do in order to prevail as a candidate Theory of Everything.
