President Biden ordered the White House flags to half-staff to honor the lives lost. Press Secretary Jen Psaki said flags will also be lowered on U.S. military bases and federal government buildings until sunset on August 30th. And the former U.S. Secretary of Defense says U.S. will probably go back into Afghanistan to fight ISIS militants. He told CNN "we're going to have to go back in to get ISIS. We're probably going to have to go back in when Al Qaeda resurrects itself as they will with this Taliban. They gave safe haven to Al Qaeda before. They'll probably do it again. So yeah, you know, like I understand that we're trying to get our troops out of there. But the bottom line is we can leave a battlefield, but we can't leave the war on terrorism, which still is a threat to our security." Outrage after news of U.S. officials handing the Taliban a list of American citizens, Afghan allies and others. The list was to get them into the airport. And a source told Fox News that handing over the names of the people who are cleared to travel to the airport essentially earmarked them for destruction. And in a victory for landlords, the supreme court blocked the extension of the Biden Administration’s COVID-related eviction moratorium. The White House said it regretted the Supreme Court's decision. It's urging states, cities, landlords and others to do what they could to help. A majority of the justices ruled that the only way the eviction moratorium could continue was if congress specifically authorized it. Is there a new type of passport? There's been talk about vaccine passports being rolled out. What is it and why does it matter? Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said vaccine passports are unacceptable. He's even gone so far as to plan executive action against them. He said people shouldn’t need to prove they've been vaccinated just to be able to "participate in normal society." New York was the first to roll out a vaccine passport program. They call it the Excelsior Pass. The state rolled it out on March 26th in partnership with IBM. In New York, you have to either test negative or get vaccinated to go to wedding receptions, and other venues. New York governor Andrew Cuomo called it "the first-in-the-nation Excelsior Pass heralds the next step in our thoughtful, science-based reopening." And the majority of family units crossing the border are now being released into the United States. This comes as hundreds of migrant teens are finding refuge at a San Diego Convention Center, as they look for a better life. The State of Washington passed a new law on Critical Race Theory in schools. All staff in the state’s K-through-12 system are now required to take the training. It mandates the doctrine of “equity, cultural competency, and dismantling institutional racism,” in the state’s K-12 schools. A cyber attack has shut down top U.S. pipeline network, Colonial Pipeline. The largest fuel pipeline operator in the states is still mostly out of commission. It services nearly half of the east coast's fuel supply, raising fears of rising gas prices but also cybersecurity breaches.
