What do we treasure? What drives us? Values. Priorities. The one essential value of a lifetime is this one thing. Do we glorify God? AS GOD’S PEOPLE we have VALUES – the things we want to pass on to our children; what we long to instil in our grandchildren. Yet sadly, more and more, children are growing up GODLESS in a God forsaking Australia these days. Our world has largely FORSAKEN and FORGOTTEN God. EVEN CHURCHGOERS, by and large, seem to be BIBLICALLY ILLITERATE... day by day they give little thought for what pleases or displeases God. The world puts AN EMPHASIS on SELF GLORY, not on PLEASING GOD. Many have a “ME FIRST” MENTALITY... THE WORLD places its value on INFORMATION, or in glorifying HUMAN THINKING. All the while, it rejects GOD’S WORD – which is THE REAL SOURCE of WISDOM. For God’s people, we know that THE WAY TO LIFE is NARROW. THE TRUTH, it is DEPENDENT on knowing THE LORD JESUS CHRIST and HIS EXCLUSIVE CLAIMS as THE ONE and ONLY SAVIOUR. The true VALUE of a LIFETIME all boils down to ONE ESSENTIAL PRINCIPLE. Which is: GLORIFY GOD. Let us measure everything by this, all important standard. Everything that is of TRUE VALUE stems from this one truth. It is APPLIED TRUTH: DO ALL TO THE GLORY OF GOD. 1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Someone has DEFINED ‘GLORY’ as the praise and honour due only to God – for who He is, for what He does and what He is to do. The GLORY speaks of God’s true NATURE, and CHARACTER, the manifestation of His BEING, His LIKENESS, His PRESENCE. THE GLORY OF GOD was THE PRIORITY for the people of God, as His tangible presence as they journeyed through the wilderness wanderings. The people followed the Glory of God as God was manifested in the Fiery Cloud. When the people disobeyed God the glory left - and Israel lost direction. ALL HOPE WAS LOST. When THE GLORY DEPARTED from the people of God, it meant a time of DEADNESS, and a SPIRITUAL FAMINE. God’s PURPOSE is that we GLORIFY HIM... Now, and forevermore... God has designed us this way... WIRED US THIS WAY. We have been made that THE GLORY OF GOD is to SHINE through us. 2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of THE GLORY OF GOD in the face of Jesus Christ. THE GLORY OF GOD ought to dictate OUR CONDUCT. It should INSPIRE us – to ASPIRE to being our HIGHEST and BEST – all for His Glory – to be excellent at what is good. THE CHIEF AIM of every believer ought to be: To GLORIFY GOD and to ENJOY HIM NOW and FOREVER. We GLORIFY GOD – as we uphold THE SCRIPTURES. 1 Tim 2:8-10 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. (9) In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array. (10) But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. Christian youth are under pressure. Moral values are breaking down. Lack of modesty is causing an explosion of loose living. Guard your virtue and modesty. It is easy in life just to CONFORM - go along with the crowd. Peer pressure can destroy character. Some girls can get so caught up in following the latest clothing styles and fashions. They spend up big on makeup and end up looking overdone. Some wear revealing clothes or fashions that draw attention to themselves by showing their shape or their skin. Aim to look your best and act like ladies and gentlemen. Don’t get caught up in worldly ways. Some girls use flesh or clothing to attract the eye of a man. They can end up dressing like a prostitute (Proverbs 7:10). Dressing likes this sends a dangerous message. God has given us eternal principles to live by. Including how we behave and dress. Believers (women) are to be CHASTE (1 Pet. 3:1-6). It means "pure, holy, modest, decent." Be MODEST 1 Tim. 2:9. What we wear outwardly reflects on our inner purity. Be wary about anything that is too tight, too low, too short… that shows too much skin… short skirts, or shorts, or shirts, and low shirts and pants… as well as anything that shows too much shape. Show SHAMEFACEDNESS. 1 Tim. 2:9. It’s having a healthy "sense of shame, blushing." Being conscious of what could bring embarrassment or disgrace, and avoiding it. The godly woman is ashamed if her clothing is not right. A person of character has a God-given sense of shame that enables him to blush. Clothing which exposes too much of one's body should cause shame and blushing. Wear clothes that will not cause shame. 1 Tim. 2:9 commends SOBRIETY… God wants us to use good, sound judgment; good sense, self-control. Pursue GODLINESS, 1 Tim. 2:10. Be devout – do what is pleasing to God. One young lady said that she looked for the most godly women she knew, and looked at what they wore, and followed their example. We could reverse this--avoid wearing what ungodly women wear. God’s people are to be free from LASCIVIOUSNESS. Avoid what prompts wrong sexual desires. Live by high standards and principles of decency. Women improperly dressed catch the eyes of men and cause them to sin. Matt. 5:27-28. Some argue, "It’s the fashion; everyone else is wearing them."
