Today I walkthrough, explain, test and review the new Tascam Mixcast 4 which is a podcasting console similar to the Rodecaster Pro. I compare the preamp to the Rodecaster Pro 1 to see if there's a significant difference or not, test the SM7b on this interface, and walk through all the processing, and software.

Today we check out Rode’s “Broadcast” condenser microphone aptly named the Broadcaster. This thing has a full body in the low endand plenty of clarity which makes for a nice broadcast tone, especially when you throw on a compressor and de-esser. The mic does suffer from plosives, and does lean a bit on the sibilant side though, but all around it’s still a nice spoken word microphone. On the other hand, for music applications, I don’t think it stands out among the other options on the market.

Today i review the Lewitt Ray, a microphone based on the LCT440 but with technology inside that adjusts to your distance. This means that if you move around a lot while recording it will maintain a relatively consistent level and tone. The mic leans on the brighter side of mics with tons of detail and it also has a physical mute button which is tight.

Is a $200 tube microphone any good? Today we’ll find out because I review the cheapest tube mic I could fine the LTM500. As far as a first tube mic on my channel this is quite a let down because it sounds quite strange with a muddy low mid section, a harsh high end and a scooped sounding mid section.

Today I review the Beyerdynamic TG V50. This is a handheld dynamic microphone that has a significant presence and treble boost. This is a more tame version of the V70D with less sparkle in the high end, a cardioid polar pattern, and a bit worse performance in terms of plosives and handling noise.

Today I review a new streaming mic from 512 audio, the Skylight. This thing is built incredibly well and offers a more mid forward sound with a smooth texture to the mic which is very pleasing. If you don’t like mid forward mics or if you have an overly nasally voice, chances are you’re not going to be too into this mic.

WARNING: I no longer recommend using a USB soundcard to connect a microphone to your computer. It has become too unreliable due to manufacturers altering the components used in their products as well as alterations to operating systems causing additional problems. The only method of connecting a microphone to your computer that I recommend is with a USB AUDIO INTERFACE that is designed specifically for that use case.
