Your Voice Into Your Computer 3 Ways In 60 Seconds! Sound Speeds
Buckle up because we're not wasting any time in this video. Yes, it's fast paced but it's full of information so don't be afraid to watch thru once and then watch again pausing to read when needed.
There are quite a few ways to get your voice (singing, voiceover, etc) into your computer and in this video, I'm showing you the 3 main ways of doing so. Each contains their own pros and cons so consider them when deciding what you want to buy and what way will be best for you.
Here Is A List Of Products To Consider Purchasing:
Please note that some of the links above are affiliate links and if you purchase something using one of these links, you'll pay the same price that you'd find on Amazon if you looked it up yourself but Amazon will pay me a small referral fee for sending you there to make a purchase.
Time stamps to tests:
0:00 Camera mic (Panasonic Lumix G7)
0:40 Over Ear Headset (Sennheiser ME 3-ew)
1:58 Lavalier Mic (Deity V.Lav)
2:59 Camera Mic (Deity V-Mic D3 Pro)
5:02 Large Diaphragm Condenser (Samson C01)
6:09 Dynamic mic (SE Electronics V7 X)
7:42 Dynamic + inline amp (SE Electronics V7 X & DM-1)
8:19 Short Shotgun (t.bone EM9600)
9:31 Long Shotgun (t.bone 9900)
10:57 XY mics on recorder (Tascam DR-40)
I'm aware that the audio isn't clean. That's the point.
All too often people buy microphones expecting them to sound the way they did in a review they watched on YouTube. There are many things that could lead people to believe that a particular mic would be best for them but when they listen to it, they suddenly find it isn't ideal. Reasons for this could range from the tonal or pitch of the voice to the acoustic treatment in the room you're using the microphone in.
Not all microphones are equal. Some are best for fidelity while others are forgotten because they move with your head but which is best for using in an untreated room?
In this video I'm comparing 10 different kinds of microphones ranging from my camera mic to a lav mic to a long shotgun mic. We'll get down to the bottom of this one!

If you were to give each masked mic a rating between 1-10, what would they be? Write your rating in the comments below! Tell me which is your favorite and why. Remember, this is a blind microphone test so you can compare 2 mics without any pre-existing reputations affecting your ears and what you hear.
In this video I reveal the two microphones compared in Masked Mics 7. They were revealed to be:
Mic 1: Blue Spark (discontinued)

Here's a link to the new version, the SL.

If you're just here to see my reaction (pain), know this:
After the initial burn, the gummy bear goes to work on my empty stomach and around 38:30 my chest starts hurting, stomach starts burning and my nerves start shaking uncontrollably. For the next few minutes, I'm in severe discomfort. SEVERE is an understatement. I start sweating like crazy again and my nerves are shaky. Great timing for working with a hot soldering iron.
This is the long version of my eating the World's Hottest Gummy Bear, Lil' Nitro, then trying to make an XLR cable while feeling the burn. Ever since 2013 when my sense of spiciness returned, I've been unable to tolerate much more than a little Tabasco on pizza or tacos. Sad but true.
If you're new to my channel, I'm a professional sound guy in the film industry who can't teach a simple thing like how to solder a cable in this video because my brain is fried. I'd like to invite you to watch any of my other videos where I'm sharp and focused on diving deep into the education of sound related topics and reviewing sound gear.

In this review I go over the features of Neutrik EMC XLR Connectors. They claim to eliminate ground loops and help with RF rejection but how is this possible with just an XLR connector? Let's dive in and see!

Imagine that there was a leading boom pole manufacturer located in the US and that company decided to start hand making boom poles at a price point of $200 and that boom pole would be supported and able to be repaired in the US by that same company... well, imagine no longer because in this video I'm going to evaluate this boom - the K-Tek Essentials KC-108 boom pole.

We are not perfect beings but we have to play the hand we were dealt. Just as someone born with no arms can learn to drive, you can learn to use your natural voice in the way it was intended. All too often people try putting on a radio style voice or channeling someone they admire but I'm sorry to say, you can't match the real thing. By no means should you give up, just stop trying to copy someone else and be yourself. Channel your own gifts! In this video I'm going to go into depth on this and show you why you should channel yourself in your content - and not just because it would be a loss to lose the original you.
The microphone I'm using is the Rode NT1.

Whether releasing shows on TV or streaming, the audio loudness should be loud enough to hear it properly while still having enough dynamic range to give the audio life. Podcast and video streaming platforms have their own technical specs maximums for loudness and most of the time, they don't exceed -13 dB LUFS. This begs the question though... is leveling to 0 dB LUFS even possible?
