Manchester United FC u12: match highlight: Kai Rooney scores against Manchester City
Wayne Rooney's son Kai scored against Manchester City for Manchester United in an Under 12s game at the weekend.
Twelve-year-old Kai, who is the eldest of former England captain Rooney's four sons, signed his first contract with United in December 2020.
He is currently in the same United youth team as Cristiano Ronaldo's son, Cristiano Jr.
But it was the relative of another current first-team player who assisted Kai's goal against City.
Tunde Shoretire, who is the younger brother of 18-year-old Shola Shoretire, passed the ball to Kai, who controlled the ball and chipped it over the keeper in just two touches. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B540_h8aww
Bayern’s under-23’s having some fun during training.
The server releases (throws) the ball to the receiver. Once the ball leaves the servers hands he says ‘head’ or ‘hands’. The receiver has to do the opposite. If the server says ‘head’, the receiver must catch the ball. If he says ‘hands’, the receiver must head the ball back to the server.
Try this with your team. It’s great for any age-group. They will love it.

I often get the question: ‘how can I make my players less afraid of contact in the game.’ Like most things in the game, you can’t just ‘tell’ players what they have to do. They have to be ‘trained’ to do it….over and over and over in order to make them more comfortable. This is probably the easiest way to get young players more confident when challenging for the ball and I’ve seen it done at a number of top clubs.
The players stand side-by-side. At the trainers signal the players go shoulder to shoulder. These players are u14 so there is a bit more force involved, which is appropriate. For younger players (u8/9/10) the more important thing is that they line up shoulder to shoulder and make contact in the right place and not so much how hard they are hitting each other.
Progression: I saw a version of this done at Ajax’s academy that included a ball positioned about 10 yards in front of the players. At the trainers signal the players go shoulder to shoulder then race to the ball. First player to the ball gets a point.
Another variation this exercise is to have the players go chest to chest.

This is good functional training/finishing exercise. I only saw this one progression but I like the possibilities in terms of the combinations between the attackers. I shot this on my last visit to Bayern's Saebener Street training facility.
- A (defender/goalkeeper) passes to B (wide defensive player)
- C (wide attacking player) initiates run infield
- B passes to C
- C passes to D (central midfielder)
- D combines with E (forward) for a one-two (give and go) to goal
- E finishes

These are all goalkeepers so it is a goalkeeping exercise but it easily adapted for field players.
The grid is approximately 5 yds (13.5m) wide by 18 yds (16.5m) long.
A, starting in the middle of the grid, passes to B (in front of the small goal). B collects the ball using proper technique and distributes to C (standing in the large goal). C receives the ball with his feet and dribbles at the opposite goal and attempts to score by dribbling around the goalkeeper. B immediately transitions into the large goal and attempts to stop the oncoming attacker from scoring.
NOTE: the attackers must attempt to dribble past the keeper before scoring. A progression to this would be to allow the attacker to shoot, or to give him the choice of shoot or dribble the keeper.
Another progression would be to have C, the attacker, play a wall pass with B before attempting to score.
Rotation: A to B, B to C, C to A.
