100 million Americans have nothing saved for retirement. One reason for this is the lack of personal finance education taught in the schools. When I graduated high school I made mistake after mistake in my personal finances. I was clueless.
One of my favorite authors is Scott Adams who is the creator of the popular Dilbert cartoons. In one of his earlier books he wrote a one page summary of the most basic financial advice to give to people. Scott asserted that there was an entire industry of personal financial advice that could basically be made redundant if people just followed his 9 simple steps. All of his advice is debatable as there are always exceptions and things change over time, but I think his page of advice is still an excellent foundation to build on.
I will be doing more videos like this in the future where I review the works of others who have attempted to distill the complicated world of personal finance down to simple steps anyone can take.
I will also do a video on the many mistakes I have made and what I learned from them and videos on what might be opportunities as the financial landscape continues to change very rapidly with not much help from the past to guide us.
If you are stony broke and 2 steps away from living in a tent on the sidewalk you should know I grew up in the housing projects in Miami, Larchmont Projects, and Little River Terraces, where we eventually got evicted from. I know a little about those pork and beans. I hope to do some videos that might help those truly close to the bottom, I know videos about 401 Ks and mutual funds have to be laughable to some people right now.

I recently purchased a very small $60 Intex K1 inflatable kayak. In this video, I show how I made a motor mount with my Rockwell Bladerunner to attach to the kayak. If you don't have a Bladerunner you can use a jigsaw. I will be posting a video of me using the kayak next week. The cost to make the motor mount was less than $2.
I am using an old lightweight 12 pound thrust Shakespeare trolling motor. The motor does not have a lot of thrust but only weighs about 6 pounds and is a good match to the tiny kayak. It will be interesting to see how fast I can make the light kayak move with the low powered trolling motor. On the plus side, the motor should use very little power which brings me to the subject of the battery I am using.
I bought the sealed Mighty Max 12 volt 35 amp trolling motor battery on amazon and it only weighs about 17 pounds. The low amp draw of the motor should allow me to use the battery long enough for my expected use. I am hoping to get at least 2 hours of use from the battery and when combined with my paddling and taking advantage of wind and tide should last well past my desire to sit in the kayak.
I always try to go upwind or up current in my boating adventures which allows me to use the wind and tide to take me home and make any paddling easy.
The motor mount will have very light forces applied to it and should work fine. I will add rod and net holders on the opposite side from the motor which will balance the mount better. I may add some bracing by attaching a cord to the interior of the kayak where the seat straps attach on the side and take some pressure off of the side mount attachments.
Adding up everything,I am over the 220 pound weight limit of the boat by 10 pounds so will only be using the boat in protected non alligator water. More importantly, it will be unlikely I will be able to get back in the kayak if it overturns so I want to be close to shore in calm water. Always wear your life preserver and make sure you can climb back on board any overturned boat or make sure you are close enough to shore you can reach shallow water to stand up and get back in the boat. Ask me how I know.:)

Just walking around and saw some really cool shadows on the ground and decided to make a video. Sometimes I can't help myself. The really funny part about this video is that there were some people walking up silently behind me along the canal watching me.
The flowers from Biden's alba or Spanish needle and is not only harmless it's edible. On the other hand, I did attempt to make an experimental chocolate pudding the other day and almost poisoned myself. So I guess I can't call myself harmless. The jury is still out on whether or not I am edible, however.

I have been messing around with a little cheap inflatable, the Intex 200, which is probably the cheapest boat you can get online. It is really just a pool toy. on the other hand, after adding a rowing frame and outriggers it rowed well and I gained more respect for the little boat.
The more I thought about it the more I realized a little cheap inflatable boat might be a handy addition to the preppers tool kit.
in this video, I brainstormed all the ways a little inflatable like the Intex 200 might be useful. Don't get me wrong, there are negatives with the Intex 200, primarily with the tender nature of the plastic it is made from, and I have no doubts about its lack of durability or seaworthiness, but it fits under the seat of your car and only cost me $12, although it is now around $20.

This is the best beet carrot oat corn muffin video on YT. It is also the only beet carrot oat corn muffin video on YT. I never ate beets before except pickled. I thought I would give beets a try as I heard they are very healthy to eat. I was amazed at how the bright beet color faded after baking. The muffins had a mild tangy aftertaste that was different and pleasant. I will try adding some molasses in the next batch along with some walnuts and raisins.

This little gadget is something I came up with to see if it would help stabilize my small kodak zi8.
The camera cradle is similar to the other commercial camera cradle or camera caddy that is sold on ebay for over $50.
You won't get a steadicam result with a camera cradle, but it will be a very comfortable way to grip the small camera. The main benefit is all of the neat ways you can add to or modify a cradle to make many useful attachments and gadgets you could not do unless you had a cradle.
It is a fun project that only takes a dollar worth of materials. The cradle shown was made in 15 minutes and is a rough prototype, it can be made to look much better. This was just to see how it would work.

Two years ago last August I bought a little rebounder on Amazon for about $35. I wanted to do an exercise that I could do even if I was not feeling well. So long as I could stand I was able to bounce on the mini-trampoline as lightly or as vigorously as I felt the need.
I had read about some studies done by Nasa that said jumping on a trampoline rehabilitated astronauts that were weak with atrophied muscles from months in weightless space better than any other form of exercise.
I also read that constant movement activated the lymph system to keep the body's cells healthy and improve the immune system.
After the initial weeks of using the rebounder, it developed into a habit. I now bounce every morning upon waking before any other activity and it feels good.
In the morning as the time spent bouncing increases and I wake up more I begin to bounce more vigorously. If I notice any pains I reduce the amount of exertion the next day.
I read a lot of the Amazon rebounder reviews and several people claim they hurt themselves jumping on the rebounder, primarily their back. I suggest if you are going to be jumping and doing aerobics you may want to buy a more expensive rebounder as this one is small and stiff. However, it is very durable and low cost if you are just doing bouncing like I have been doing.
If you have trouble with balance you can purchase rebounders with bars on the side to assist your balance. I will be adding PVC bars to mine in a future DIY video.
The rebounder came with a counter the counts the bounces but it made an annoying noise so I removed it. The little trampoline also came with two rubber cords that are supposed to assist in doing exercises but I have never used them in 2 years.
I made a video about the rebounder a few months after I got it to show how it is opened. I use it and store it by simply leaning against the wall. I have had no wear issues using it daily for two years.
