Hello, everyone, this is the first time that I put up 2 videos at the same time!
In this video, we extract some caffeine from caffeine pills. I was not happy with my yield of caffeine in the previous videos, so I chose a better source. I managed to get 8.5g of nice clean caffeine!
This video is kind of linked to my other video tutorial on extractions.
So today, I'm gonna to be making some scary looking microwave plasma, which may or may not destroy my microwave.
WARNING: DON'T TRY THIS. Microwave plasma is extremely dangerous and can easily damage your microwave. This experiment was carried out in a controlled environment and serious injury can occur if performed improperly.
Glass used in this experiment has a chance to explode, and is otherwise permanently compromised. For more information on this effect, check out "I had to break all of my beakers" on NileBlue: https://youtu.be/tGqVMbAQhBs

In this vial, is a concentrated form of uranium called sodium diuranate (Na2U2O7), and it's extremely radioactive. What's kind of weird is that this little box, is even more radioactive, but it isn't filled with a bunch of pure radioactive material, and it's just some old watch hands. However these watch hands, are painted with something called radium, that's 1000000x more radioactive than uranium.

So, as usual, I made a bunch of mistakes and decided to re-upload...
Today we are working with a vanadium compound for the first time! The reaction that produces the ammonium metavanadate is called a metathesis reaction (I forgot to say it in the video).
Ill be using the ammonium metavanadate to make adipic acid, the redox rainbow, and the mandelin reagent.

In this video, vanillin is separated from vanilla sugar using methanol. In my opinion this method is easier than the other one, because it doesn't need DCM.

Hey guys, this is a new series called edible chem, where Ill be able to eat the stuff that I make. For this video, Ill be extracting piperine, but let me know what you would like to see in the future!

Pepto-Bismol contains bismuth subsalicylate, and its possible to extract the bismuth from it and use it to grow metal crystals.

Hey guys! Today we are making a little bit of benzaldehyde using toluene and chromyl chloride. This is a nifty little thing called the Étard reaction.

The strength of the indicator solution can be adjusted depending on your strength needs. I made a 0.05%wt solution because that is all I had. In general, a lot of indicator solutions are actually 0.5%wt (0.5g used).
This is just a quick video on how to make a phenolphthalein indicator solution. A few drops of this solution can be used as an indicator in acid base titrations or other pH dependent applications.
