ETENDARD DE FRANCE
Cet étendard reprend toute la symbolique de la Royauté catholique et sacrale de France. On va le voir, il est à lui seul une leçon de théologie et d’histoire. Il sera demain, si Dieu le veut, déployé pour accueillir le Lieutenant que désignera la Providence. Après la chape de saint Martin et la bannière Monjoie saint Denis disparues, il pourrait être l’étendard officiel de la Royauté sacrale restaurée, nouveau labarum de la France catholique et royale, tant il en exprime complètement l’esprit et la lettre.
L’étendard est constitué par deux faces en soie blanche semée de 16 fleurs de lys en fil d’or, encadrant le motif central. Ce motif central est celui des Armes royales de France, avec le manteau du Sacre déployé sur son revers blanc semé de flammes, les côtés de l’avers du manteau bleu nuit à fleurs de lys sont visibles ; il est surmonté de la couronne royale. De haut en bas du manteau, pend le collier de l’Ordre du Saint Esprit fondé le 31 décembre 1578 par Henri III (c’était la plus haute distinction de l’ancienne monarchie).
Croisées sur le manteau, sont disposées en croix de saint André, la main de justice et une croix de procession, instruments symboliques de la Royauté sacrale chrétienne française. Au milieu du manteau, face revers déployée, figure un écu de forme moderne, de couleur bleu marial, autour duquel, dans un bandeau allant de gauche à droite, on peut lire successivement en lettre majuscule brodées d’or :
Gesta Dei, à gauche,
Regnum Galliae, Regnum Mariae, en haut,
Per Francos, à droite,
Vicit leo de tribu Juda, en bas,
De haut en bas, sur la partie centrale de l’écu, on trouve successivement représentés :
- une colombe, symbole du Saint-Esprit, référence au don miraculeux de la Sainte Ampoule, d’où partent des rayons dorés,
- le Cœur de Jésus rouge, surmonté de flammes et d’une croix, entouré par la couronne d’épines,
- le Cœur de Marie rouge, surmonté d’une étoile argentée, transpercé par un glaive, entouré de trois roses,
- les deux cœurs sont encadrés par trois fleurs de lys disposées en triangle pointe en bas, symbole de la Sainte Trinité,
- un lion en marche, tête orientée à droite sur l’étendard, coiffé d’une couronne, tenant dans sa patte avant droite, un globe terrestre argenté sur lequel la France est figurée en bleu ciel.
La formule Gesta Dei per Francos fut employée pour la première fois par le moine Guilbert de Nogent (1055-1125) qui écrivit une histoire de la Première croisade intitulée Gesta Dei per Francos, ce qui signifie littéralement que les faits (gesta) de Dieu sont accomplis (verbe gerere) par les Francs.
La devise Regnum Galliae, Regnum Mariae est attribuée au pape Urbain II qui fut émerveillé du nombre de sanctuaires consacrés à Marie qu’il rencontra sur son trajet lorsqu’il vint prêcher la Croisade à Clermont en 1095.
Vicit leo de tribu Juda, « Il a vaincu le Lion de Juda » est un verset de l’Apocalyspe (V,5) de saint Jean et désigne, selon l’interprétation unanime des Pères de l’Eglise, le Christ lui-même. Le lion était l’emblème de la tribu de Juda dont le pape Grégoire IX écrivit à saint Louis qu’elle était « la figure anticipée du Royaume de France » (lettre du 21 octobre 1239).
Vive le Christ roi de France, vive la Très Sainte Vierge Marie, Reine de France, vive le roi de France qui est le Lieutenant du Christ !
