American Samoa ?? I’m FINALLY Going ? #oneoceanonepeople
American Samoa??: It’s been a long time coming!
As of yesterday I’ve booked my flight to American Samoa, a confirmation I’ve been dreaming of for 8 years. That’s 8 years since I originally planned to go, and 20 whole years since I learned of American Samoa.
Visiting American Samoa is and will be a super emotional trip because of the amount of patience involved in possibly the most challenging & testy years of my life. As I had to reshift my gears due to achilles injury in Hawai’i in 2017 & the pause the world experienced in 2020.
I remember hitchhiking Big Island Hawai’i and searching for flights a month out to book as I explore the Hawaiian islands. I also remember doing the same Spring 2020 just as the world was slowly shutting down, July 2020? Oh man I was ready and determined!
When I say it’s been a long time coming, not even a this post could come close to how big this is for me. Beyond the past 8 years, Ive been wanting to visit American Samoa since I discovered the islands at 15 years old. That means aside from Greece and Italy (cliche I know), American Samoa is my earliest desired travel destination.
I always say it & will say again, I firmly believe this whole journey of truth in the pacific and how it’s shaped to turn out was for a reason. The injury and voyaging to Aotearoa Tuvalu and Kiribati back to Hawaii. The P@ndemic and voyaging into Hawaiian culture to soak in knowledge & indigenous values.
I’m more prepared to go to American Samoa than I was both times combined! Appreciating and seeing the smaller details of a culture and its people with love & respect, but learning in the process.
Adding significance from a travel standpoint, is that American Samoa is my first stop launching my voyage across the Pacific islands for a cross oceania voyage from Tokelau to the Marianas.
I still can’t even wrap my head around that this is all happening. But know this will all come full circle that will be felt along this voyage and into the hearts of the people of the Pacific. Because all of my heart, mind, soul, and spirit has been wholly put into all of this. ??

Australia's working holiday visa has been something I've been looking forward to for years. And with the coronavirus situation, that opportunity is looking pretty bleak. But I have hope and will just have to see where it goes. However in the meantime, I am working hard on creating sustainability in my life for where I can support myself financially much healthier on the road. And missing a working holiday, won't be such a hard loss of an opportunity. Stay tuned and stay safe voyagers.

It's been a hell of a rough past several months. But since my Achilles Tendon surgery, I've been managing very well and recovering rapidly to make it back out to world exploration. I've gone from two crutches with 25% weight bearing, to one crutch weight bearing as tolerated, two zero crutches full weight bearing to losing the boot and being back in my shoes. One thing I've been looking forward to doing is walking again. And although I've gota while to go to be back to normalcy, I'm super happy to at least walk again.
