Why eat one and love the other? Chickens are just as sweet and adorable as dogs and cats. I have several pets in my house, but my hens are my favorite ones!

HERD Elephant Orphanage South Africa brings you a timeline of events as Khanyisa returns from her day with her herd in the bush, as Nursery Carer Willinton leads her through the gate. Khanyisa is ready for bed and only wants to eat the greenery around her. But Willinton has to make sure she drinks all her milk in her 6 pm feeding before she feasts on the bana grass, branches and collection of gem squashes, butternut and sweet potato in a private bucket for her in the nursery.
Khanyisa shows some reluctance but eventually gives in to Willinton’s patience and persistence. She finishes her bottles and reveals once again her growing new tusks! Her beautiful eyes are clear and open too.
She certainly likes to scratch and rub her little tusks against surfaces but it isn’t only young elephant do this. You can also see elephants scratching or running the tusk area against a tree or their trunk will ‘play’ around the tusk area.
This growth of the tusks is different to when they "teethe" and “cut their molars”.
The tusks keep growing throughout an elephant’s life.
The tusks of male elephants grow at a faster rate than the females and are important not only in the search for food and water, but in bull elephant dominance displays that ensure that the strongest and fittest bulls pass their genes to the next generation.
After snacking on some vegetation and vegetables, Khanyisa drops off to slumber, literally… Take a look at her beautiful, peaceful and indeed very large body lying down as Lammie and Nungu munch away while they have the branches to themselves.
