Why the Gospel is woke - A sermon on the workers in the vineyard (Matthew 20:1-16)
"Woke" is one of the most horribly misused words around right now. Too many people simply mean it as "that thing I don't like" when it means something so much more important than that. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is one of justice (see Jesus reading from the prophet Isaiah in Luke 4), and wokeness is simply being awake to injustice. The parable of the workers in the vineyard has a lot to say about social justice, lessons we should be learning from today.
