I have gone on about equipment testing, verification and validation since 2000 and never surprised when I come across the same issue.
In this case I have an old Linksys router configured as my lab router with WiFi and DHCP disabled. This router is connected to a backup link that is much slower than the main link for the office. Every so often, the router forgets its settings and DHCP wakes up. I immediately notice that internet response isn’t as good, etc.
I always consider these scenarios a great opportunity to test my tools, knowledge and troubleshooting skills. Since I’m not a fan of rebooting, in this example I found by simply checking DHCP on/back off and saving the changes, the router remembers that DHCP is disabled.
As I mention in the video, I see this with a lot of consumer grade equipment, but must admit that I have seen this in enterprise level equipment as well.

Performing a Manual Wi-Fi Site Survey

I created this video to equally benefit people who have wireless tools as well as people who do not.
Why would I say that? If you do not have tools you'll have a methodology to use when performing a manual site survey or basic Wireless troubleshooting.
If you do have wireless tools then you can always double check how it is measuring your wireless statistics when you do perform a site survey.
The key here is to use your favorite tool with a consistent methodology and if necessary, compare it with your current wireless site survey tool
As I mentioned in the video you should figure out ahead of time if you plan on measuring the access point statistics or the end users statistics

We all use software and many people assume that the software will update and ‘take care of‘ itself.
I’m sure you have gone to the effort of going to the Help-Check version menu option in your software to check as well.
I can’t tell how many times I take the extra step and manually go to the vendor’s website to find that they have more up to date software or drivers which might address any issues you may be having.

When using newer versions of software you may notice that some of your favorite features may have been moved to a different place.
In some cases, you may find out that some features are no longer supported, which can be frustrating.
In my example, I noticed that the Window Title configuration option was no longer available – or I just can’t find it in version 2.
I use this option to put notes in the Wireshark title bar for when I use screen captures in my reports. Sounds like a trivial issue, but trust me, when you use a feature for a while, you start to rely on it.

Wireshark adapter issue and fix
Wireshark Windows Adapter Issue
I was trying to capture packets from my Network Critical SmartNA packet broker and only saw broadcast packets.
At first, I blamed the packet broker since I assumed I knew my laptop and Wireshark so well. Do you know what they say about the word 'assume'? ;)
I then set the packet broker back to factory settings and reconfigured it twice with no change. Do you know what Einstein said about insanity? He said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” Yup, that was me.
I then took a look at Wireshark and noticed the adapter "promiscuous" check box was not checked. When I checked the box and tried to start a capture, I got an error message saying "The capture session could be initiated". "Please turn off promiscuous mode for this device."
After some thought, I realized the last thing that changed was that I updated Wireshark/Npcap. So I uninstalled my current version of npcap, went to the npcap website, downloaded an older version and installed that one.
Now everything works just fine and i can finally move on to troubleshooting the original problem.

FIRSTLY.. I DO NOT WORK FOR FOSCAM, so please don't send your support issues over.
I noticed a lot of people don;t want to install foscam's setup software and i noticed there was limited info out there on how to use the SOFT AP feature.
In my case i have a C1 Lite and demonstrated how to use the SOFT AP feature so you can use any web browser to configure your camera.
i also included a few things you might want to configure.
FYI. I noticed my android web browser and Chrome couldn't log in and i have no idea why. just so you know
i use a great free product, contacam from www.contaware.com to monitor my cameras.
dont forget to go to the support area and update your firmware
