Shot Show - Guns are Big Business
From smartphone-sized guns through to naked guns that let you see their action in action, the floors of the world's largest shooting show were chock full of interesting gear.
More than 60,000 convened in Las Vegas for the 36th Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT Show), where more than 1,600 exhibitors are showcasing their latest and greatest. It's the world's largest gun show, and there was something for everyone there.
Companies like Remington took inspiration from classics, even those nearly a century old, and reinvented them for today's shooter. Other companies brought innovations aimed at law enforcement and the military, such as Sig Sauer's new family of pistols.
Here are some crowd favorites that scored high marks
Guns are Big Business
In terms of gun ownership, the U.S. is the runaway global leader. There are nearly nine firearms for every 10 American citizens; this proportion is 40% higher than that of Yemen, which ranks second in the world for gun ownership.
Every year, nearly 9 million firearms enter the U.S. market. 5.5 million guns are manufactured domestically, and roughly 95% are eventually sold to Americans. An additional 3.2 million firearms are imported into the U.S. and sold through licensed firearms dealers. Currently there are more than 130,000 of these licensed dealers in the country; to put that number in perspective, the U.S. is also home to 144,000 gas stations, 36,500 grocery stores, and 14,000 McDonald's restaurants.
Want more comparisons? The firearms industry generates roughly $32 billion in revenue every year — $10 billion more than the Ford Motor Company — and employs 98,000 people, five times more than Google Inc. Furthermore, the gun industry is continuing to grow at an astonishing rate. Connecticut-based Sturm, Ruger & Co., the country's fourth largest firearm manufacturer, recorded a $180 million increase in revenue since 2004

Howard Stern’s Brutal Response to Obama After Orlando Terror
Howard Stern said no gun control laws could have prevented what happened in Orlando.
During “The Howard Stern Show” Wednesday, the radio host used an analogy concerning sheep, sheepdogs, and wolves to explain why disarming the American public is a bad idea.
“I’m so upset about Orlando and what went down, but I can’t believe these people who come out afterwards and their answer to Orlando is to take away guns from the public,” Stern said. “It’s f***ing mind-blowing to me.”
Stern then turned his argument back toward the most deadly attack on American soil which didn’t use a single gun – 9/11.

Obama Disarms Americans While Arming the World
As President Barack Obama has outwardly attempted to curtail Americans’ Constitutional Second Amendment right to bear arms, his Administration has approved huge increases in defense spending and export sales. The Administration is now seeking to eliminate stringent State Department controls on exports and foreign licensing of dozens of categories of weapons and technology from the United States Munitions List (USML) by transferring control to the pro-business Commerce Department.
In spite of the Government Accountability Office (GAO) warnings this change could increase terrorist access to dangerous weapons, the Administration claims this “reform” would enhance “the competitiveness of key United States manufacturing and technology sectors.”

Will western Canada separate?
Canada is a deeply divided country. Western alienation is at its worst point in our history and for a the first time, separation has become a digestible idea to many Canadians. Alberta is particularly alienated as it serves as the province that contributes a great deal to the country's economy, but is often not treated with respect.
The energy sector is seemingly a major component of the alienation. Albertans are losing their jobs in oil and gas due to environmental goals set by the Trudeau Liberals. Nonetheless, while Albertans are seemingly stifled due to their "draconian" sources of energy, Canada continues to import Saudi oil and urban Liberal Torontonians can't tell the difference.

Survey suggests Sask. residents want Western Canada to separate
49% of Westerners say the federal government has become virtually irrelevant to them
A recent survey suggests Saskatchewan residents think Western Canada would be better off if it separates from the rest of the nation.
The Environics Institute polled 5,732 people online, across all Canadian provinces and territories, from December 2018 to January 2019.
In Saskatchewan, 53 per cent of respondents agreed with the statement, "Western Canada gets so few benefits from being part of Canada that they might as well go it on their own."

Google and Facebook received a growing share of the federal government’s advertising budget after the Trudeau Liberals took power, as Ottawa quadrupled how much it spent each year on ads from the American web giants between 2015 and 2019.

Well, now they have some evidence to back up that analysis.
According to a weekend report by the Canadian Press, Canadians' top priorities don't seem to mesh with the Harper Tories' top priorities.
Members of focus groups consulted prior to the February budget had "little enthusiasm" for the proposed bitumen pipeline to the British Columbia coast — even those who said they support
the controversial project.
And among the 12 groups consulted — from Coquitlam, B.C., to Bridgewater, N.S. — the economy itself was not a top-of-mind concern.
Rather, the groups spontaneously raised education, health care, pensions and veterans as their key issues.
But does that mean the Tories going to change their campaign strategy and focus more on social issues?
Don't bet on it, according to political consultant Marcel Wieder.

The Harper government is chastising Justin Trudeau for stating he would scrap a new federal law that forces First Nations to disclose salary and other financial details online, calling the Liberal Leader’s position an affront to taxpayers.

Study Shows 16 Million Carry a Firearm

A day after Premier Philippe Couillard attacked the sovereignty option being proposed by Pierre Karl Peladeau as an imaginary solution to a problem that doesn't exist, the new Parti Quebecois leader fired back.

Racist bullying plagues Calgary family in mostly-black housing complex
A Calgary mother says she and her kids have become victims of racist attacks from other children in their southwest housing complex, where most of the residents are black.
Blair France says her family has been taunted and pushed around for 'being white.'
"They call me white trash and a marshmallow. They say I don't belong here because I'm white," said France's 12-year-old daughter Deborah France.
Local children even come on to France's front lawn at the Shaganappi Village complex, swearing at the family and pelting the house with rocks, she says.
"I've called the police numerous times."
"I'm in fear for my life. I sleep on my couch at night because I'm afraid that someone is going to break into our house," said France.
She says the taunting is taking a toll on her kids.
"My children's grades have gone down. They've never been bullied before," she said.
The affordable housing complex is run by Calgary Housing, but France says officials have done nothing about the situation.

The Washington Post addressed the question of affordability. The newspaper pointed out that the 2,000-page law known as the Affordable Care Act contains some of the most complicated language imaginable when it comes to premium subsidies.
Fortunately, the Kaiser report used actual rates that insurers plan to charge. According to Kaiser's Levitt, "Our aim here was to really start making it tangible for people." Levitt added, "So much until now has been hypothetical, with simulations and models. Now that we have real premiums in 17 states and D.C., we could start looking at what consumers in real circumstances would pay."
The bottom line is that if you make less than $45,960 as an individual, the government provides a subsidy to the price you pay for insurance on the exchange. Above that amount, you are expected to pay the full price -- up to $6,350 or $529 per month.
Homeowners are being offered a payment equal to their last municipal property-tax assessment. If all those eligible take advantage of the program, the province said, the bill could hit $175-million -- an average of about $690,000 per home. That total that has already been factored into Premier Alison Redford's $5-billion rebuilding estimate following the disastrous June floods in which more than 14,500 homes were damaged.
The Alberta government has been under intense pressure to provide timely details of its plan designed to encourage people to move off the "floodways" -- zones where river flood-water flows are the deepest, fastest and most destructive, where floods are the most likely to occur and where the government will ban all future building.
Property owners are eligible to have their properties purchased by the government whether their homes were damaged in June or not.
