You Wont Believe What Inspired Music Legend Chris Rea to Pick Up the Slide Guitar
Chris Rea "It was an old Muddy Waters blues song called Don't Start Me Talking. I was just fascinated about where these people were. It had that old fashioned blues ambient sound. And I imagined a certain bar somewhere in Memphis or somewhere, you know. And I filled all the rest of myself. And it wasn't a bit like I imagined, but, you know, it was a lot tougher than I imagined. But that's what, it was this strange guitar. And I asked somebody what this guitar was and they told me it was a slag guitar. And he put a bottleneck on this. And he played without looking at the frets. And I found it was very, very expressive, you know. And that was it, I was hooked." ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOd8ZJZMXKg

I always loved singing and I remember being 16 years old on the set of The Henderson Kids, which was a mini-series I did, and another one of the girls, Nadine Garner, the two of us used to sing all the time. So I did love it. I mean, I loved it when I was even list, although I was like eight or nine singing to Grease, thinking or wishing that I could be a living Newton John. But after I'd worked when I was 16, when I was 17, I had a little bit of money. So I recorded a demo tape with three songs on it. But I didn't do that to become a singer."
