AdGuard Home is a network-wide software for blocking ads and tracking. After you set it up, it'll cover ALL your home devices, and you don't need any client-side software for that. It operates as a DNS server that re-routes tracking domains to a “black hole”, thus preventing your devices from connecting to those servers. ## Installing AdGuard Home 1. Log into the Armbian device 2. Run the following commands in a terminal window ``` # download the latest adguard home release wget https://static.adguard.com/adguardhome/release/AdGuardHome_linux_arm64.tar.gz # extract the downloaded tar.gz sudo tar xvf AdGuardHome_linux_arm64.tar.gz # change directory into the extracted folder cd AdGuardHome # install AdGuardHome as a service sudo ./AdGuardHome ‐s install ``` 3. Open a web browser and navigate to http://DNSorIP:3000 4. Click the Get Started button 5. Set the Admin Web Interface and DNS Server network interfaces and ports > Click Next 6. Enter an admin username and password > Click Next 7. Click Next on page 4 8. Click Open Dashboard on the Congratutations page 9. Log in using the admin username and password created during the install 10. Welcome to AdGuardHome

Launch XCA 2. Open the PKI database if it is not already (File > Open DataBase), enter password 3. Click on the Certificates tab, right click on your Intermediate CA certificate 4. Select New 5. On the Source tab, make sure Use this Certificate for signing is selected 6. Verify your Intermediate CA certificate is selected from the drop down 7. Click the Subject tab 8. Complete the Distinguished Name section ``` internalName: nettools.i12bretro.local countryName: US stateOrProvinceName: Virginia localityName: Northern organizationName: i12bretro organizationUnitName: i12bretro Certificate Authority commonName: nettools.i12bretro.local ``` 9. Click the Generate a New Key button 10. Enter a name and set the key size to at least 2048 11. Click Create 12. Click on the Extensions tab 13. Select End Entity from the type list 14. Click Edit next to Subject Alternative Name 15. Add any DNS or IP addresses that the certificate will identify 16. Update the validity dates to fit your needs 17. Click the Key Usage tab 18. Under Key Usage select Digital Signature, Key Encipherment 19. Under Extended Key Usage select Web Server and Web Client Authentication 20. Click the Netscape tab 21. Select SSL Server 22. Click OK to create the certificate ## Exporting Required Files 1. In XCA, click on the Certificates tab 2. Right click the SSL certificate > Export > File 3. Set the file name with a .pem extension and verify the export format is PEM + Key (*.pem) 4. Click OK ## Applying the Certificates 1. Download PuTTY [Download](https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/latest.html) 2. Connect to the Linux host via PuTTY 3. Install Webmin if it is not already installed ``` wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/webadmin/webmin_1.941_all.deb sudo dpkg ‐i webmin_1.941_all.deb sudo apt‐get ‐f install ``` 4. Copy the certificates exported above to the Linux device 5. Copy the certificates exported above to /etc/webmin ``` cp /home/pi/Downloads/webmin.pem /etc/webmin ``` 6. Open a web browser and navigate to Webmin via https://DNSorIP:10000 7. Login with the root username and password 8. Navigate to Webmin > Webmin Configuration > SSL Encryption 9. Click the browse button next to the Private key file field 10. Navigate to /etc/webmin and select the webmin.pem certificate 11. Make sure the certificate file is set to Same file as private key 12. Click the save button 13. Webmin will apply the certificate and restart 14. In this example I'll be installing Debian 11 AARCH64 in Proxmox running on Intel x64 based hardware. 01. Log into the ProxMox web UI 02. Select a storage from the left navigation pane to download the .iso to 03. Select ISO Images in the left sub-navigation pane 04. If running ProxMox 6, download the Debian ARM64 iso https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/release/current/arm64/iso-cd/debian-11.1.0-arm64-netinst.iso and upload it to the ProxMox ISO image library 05. If on ProxMox 7, click Download from URL and paste the download URL from above ≫ Click Query URL ≫ Click Download 06. Right click the ProxMox node name ≫ Create VM 07. Type DebianARM64 in the name field set the VM ID to 164 (unless 164 is in use) ≫ Next 08. Set the Type to Linux, Version to 5.x - 2.6 Kernel and select Do not use any media ≫ Next 09. On the System tab set the BIOS for OVMF (UEFI), Uncheck the Add EFI Disk checkbox ≫ Next 10. On the Hard Disk tab, set the Storage device and Disk size to 16 (adjust as needed) ≫ Next 11. On the CPU tab, set the number Cores to 2 (adjust as needed) ≫ Next 12. On the Memory tab, set the Memory to 2048 (adjust as needed) ≫ Next 13. Leave the defaults on the Network tab ≫ Next 14.
