I'm not big on pigeonholes because I feel it sets formulaic boundaries for every tune that breaks new ground. However Zenon Records (which is a fantastic new discovery for me), is breaking new ground all on their own. Sure they're clearly all about psychedelic dance music, and have tunes that perfectly slot into one of the many psytrance & Goa subgenres, but more than anything else they have THIS! I mentioned "psychedelic house" yesterday in the description for *"Cancel Culture Recalibrated".* And while some tracks have BPM's, bass & rhythm section, and even riffs of house tunes, with epic house style ambient intro, as well as the reviews of this release throwing around the term "Psygressive" (IE Psychedelic Prog House)...this style actually hovers at some sonic limbo between genres, too moderately layered to be trance, too mellow & organic to be techno....& yet still pleasing to the ear of hardened techno-punks & trance hippies. See what you think....
Oh yeah here's the official review if anyone should give a damn:
*The legendary Permutations series continues with this - our tenth volume!*
*Thoughtfully compiled by label boss Sensient, this epic compilation features 13 tracks that showcase the label’s diverse range of sounds.*
*From the deep dark rumblings of Mycelliohm’s ‘Tropical Flavour’ to the jazz fusion-tinged Pspiralife remix by Orrech, and to the luscious daytime sounds of ANTEAN, this album represents the renowned Zenon Records aesthetic in all its glory!*
Mark Skelton (no relation to Les...so they claim haha!) a more technical DJ. I'm officially on a bittersweet Niche Nostalgia-fest...And it's led me to this gem of a tune I've been searching for at about 48:00 I only heard it 3 times in my life 1996-2000, whenever I asked it was "IGA feeling" or more informatively "White label" by "Unknown". I apologize for the sound quality in the others, this ain't bad & the Danny Walker mix sounds great .
Classic anthem by Bruno Sanchioni, ⅓ of B.B.E ("7 Days and 1 Week"... which you can very easily tell if you play the 2 back2back)& Giuseppe Chierchia, a guy better known for that much sampled disco tune (the one in "Getting Jiggy With it" and "Don't call me Baby"... Ring a bell? Don't ask how I know that ... just... don't ok? ???).
Classed as *"the first trance tune ever made",* which it pretty much is, from way back in 1990. It sounded great then; great in 1992 when Jam & Spoon 's "Watch out for Stella" remix updated for the millions of new ravers (which I included because many ravers aren't aware that's not the original version), it's been great all the times it's been remixed, whether the old skool or the new versions (the only thing out of sync is the description of THIS Particular "age".
More "the age that needs love".
tracks:
Age of Love
1. Jam & Spoon Watch Out For Stella Mix
2. Sign of the Times remix.
3. OPM remix
4. Boeng remix
Ok next up on Radio Static (Geddit? Geddit??) one of only 2 E.S releases in 1995; more than conpensates for Quantity in Quality.
Full steam ahead, no messing riffs, with brilliantly obscure titled tunes like "Peeeow!"
"Dionysiac" is Eat Static's 1st foray into Drum & Bass, and not only is it on parr with the best of Metalheadz, it's a thing of beauty, & way ahead of it's time.
Lastly (on the EP not the UP....Load ?) & Uforic Undulance (the deep ambient orchestral trancer from Implant), is given a bangin acid trance makeover/remix, and renamed "Undulattice"..
To end where Implant starts, for the topsy turvy dum ass sake of it....
The tune that to me is the epitome of Eat Static, "Survivors".
Both the original (2021 remastered APPARENTLY!) & the totally thundering, awesomely mutated live mix from B-World...The art of Ad lib perfected!
1.(00:00) Epsylon
2(8:25) Dionysiac
3.(18:00) Peeow
4.(26:09)Undulattice (Uforic Mix)
5.(00:36:29) Survivors (Original mix)
6.(44:10)Survivors (B-World Live version).
Not familiar with this one at all, I didn't even realize these dudes had done an essential mix, but it's probably worth checking out. I guess that's that's the"New thing" I learned today (tomorrow, who knows I may be able to cook something other than microwave meals ?).

999999999 AKA NineTimesNine, NTN, 9×9...
These 2 Italian Techno mad lads have left a trail of glowing red dancefloors, smouldering "rave venues",
This set is one probaby their best ever, I honestly can't say but it's really f'in good, and is generally beloved by the Raver fanbase.
their oscillating frequencies still scar the ionisphere... psionic intracognitive storms/hypnagogic auroras, and hyper-vibrational thermodynamic energy vortexes (or...fiery whirlwinds... AHA: FIRE-NADOS) ...WTF am I on about u ask? Mostly I'm just rambling bollocks, using big words to sound exponentially clever, while conveying the true brilliance of 9×9, who exploded onto the scene in 2016, dropped some stunning sets, & several great records of their own kept it real, mashing old & nu skool Acid Techo together effortlessly, with a resolve to make DJing an artform again. Now with an absolutely MASSIVE global following, and a positive message for people in a time we need it most. Unity & Individual Sovereignity & Freedom VS Division, Atomization & Mental Collectivism.
The Music has spoken (or...yaknow?)?

There's about 10-20 tunes that come to mind when reminiscing about that "Speed Garage" micro-era between '96-'98 (before the sound was divided into: that poppy 2-step "UK Garage" fluff, the almost as poppy, even less tuneful, caustic plastic "gangsta rap" precursor to "Grime", & "Niche style" Bassline House (TBH the only good thing to come of it)....
I'm not going to list them, & everyone has their own I guess....
That said, I'm willing to bet most have this track squarely in their top 5.
"Speed Garage" is really tuff gritty house, that the likes of Wild Child had been dropping since '91, except with Armand Van Helden influenced sub-bass, and slick nifty gimmicks like jungle snares, time-stretched vocals, gunshot samples...oh and in the case of Gunman, possibly the 1st place most ppl heard the phrase *"BO! SELEKTAH"*
1. Gunman (Original mix)
2. (Nu Birth Gun Groove Dub)
3. (Natural Born Chillers D&B Remix)
4. (King Hydra Remix)
5. Playin' Around (Nu Birth Remix)
6. Gunman (Nosta Remix)
7. (Kris Jay Remix)
The original is great, the Loxy & Resound chilled out, extra d-tempo dub mix chills it byseveral orders of magnitude keeping heavyweight innovative...
The Remix (IE - Track 1 in this upload), is the epitome of HEAVY! A full on storm of SWIRLING BASS & DARK FLASHES & 1 of the best tunes ever (genres be damned).
*Hide the Tears:*
1. Remix
2. Loxy & Resound mix
