TrafficKing starts out with a rather unintimidating chase sequence (just avoid being near explosive barrels for too long and you'll be fine) followed by an equally unintimidating boss fight - but you'll need to know how to damage him. Stay either inside or outside of the four exhaust vent tower things, shoot each until they start steaming up, then get inside of the "square" area between all four of them before doing the same with the fourth. All the while, King is firing at you, but that's what your dash is for. If you have Overload, put skill points into both it and Frag, fire Overload up and bomb King to hell until he gets back up. Rinse, repeat. Finish him off and prepare for the third and final set of stages.

May to the June baby! I used to love this game in the arcades and thought it was cutting edge when I first played it. Which it was... in 1989. Even now, it holds up very well as a 3D shooter. It gets downright nasty with the guided missiles in any given final stage. This route we took was by going RIGHT at every single branching path between stages. I played well enough to gain shields for the final stage and only took 4 or so hits in it. NIGHT STRIKER down for the 1 credit unkilla-count!
Played on MAME using default settings. No pausing, turbos, tool assists, save states or any other cheats were used.

Commentary track added to the feat. Original description:
A pretty quick and clean way to take out the final boss in Ultimate Mode with Zangetsu, with just a bit of luck in taking him out on the low set in phase 1 before the relatively simple phase 2. With a little more foolproofing and placement manipulation, the boss should go down 100 percent via the "Holy Water" subweapon. The key here, for the most part, is manipulation of where the enemy lands after it prepares its attack. By standing just under the block seen in this video and getting to that little space just after it starts heading to the landing destination, you can mostly hack away at the orbs and the boss simultaneously, with most remaining orbs sailing over you if you're doing it right. The only thing to watch for is when both hands go low; you have to get up high and just above the usual "safe spot" before any attacks come out. With the "Holy Water" you can take out most orbs that come out, or if this set comes later and you have the Attack Up power activated, you should ideally take out phase 1 before it even becomes an issue. Likely more methods to come.

I had done a practice run of this two-phase fight earlier, and wouldn't you know it, that one went much smoother than this recorded version, but it is what it is. A bad QTE made that first phase go way longer than it should have, but fortunately, he's pretty weak in levels once Phase 2 starts up. Pounded him into oblivion once we got the ball rolling.

No real boss fights in this stage, just some exo mercs, a more dangerous Angel and a potentially very dangerous gun turret area where you'll want your shield up and your dash frequent. Put your skill points into both at the expense of most everything else for that section.

Nadai is such a pain in the ass, even on NG+. I need to work on better avoidance of his ground attack in later difficulties, but I think I have some ideas next time around. But still, down he goes!
The mob fight goes from 0:00 to about 6:06, with the Nadai fight at about 7:35.

Okay, this was a challenge! Not so much the goons, as they are more or less just fodder/energy refiller once you're maxed, even on Original mode, but the two "bookend" bosses were a handful. Giving either of them any wiggle room at all leads to major damage and possible death, so the key is to not give them any room. If you can knock them down, you can usually keep them down with Raoh's Burst Mode technique for a hopeful stun and thus big combo. I saved all the Amulet powers for Taruga, putting him down with Raoh's Amulet, following up with Toki. The only offense he got here was between that and going into Burst Mode, and even that takes its toll quickly, so I was fortunately able to keep him down with enough blasts to go into the final aerial move (learned from the maxed out Toki battle) and put Taruga down for the count!

Not as easy as it looks. You want to immediately start moving to the right, and jump right at the edge and just shave him for the first shot. You then have to either time the second shot just right so as to break his scythe and then follow up with another hit, or get that second hit in before it even comes out. Once achieved, head back to the left and break his giant skull attack with another shot. Then on to the real game...

Part 2 of this series, stage by stage, on Normal for now. We're maxed out this time around, since we're doing Stage Select on Normal and I'm pretty pumped up from previous playthroughs. I'll do New Game+ and Speedrun Mode in the future, but for now, going for S-Ranks and no deaths stage by stage. Frag n' dash is a wonderful thing.
