Plato's Closet had their shop at this location, but they since have relocated just a few minutes north of here. Although the store lives on, this space remains vacant.
Abandoned JCPenney Plaza 2021: JCPenney (former ShopKo) and Med Express (Former Ruby Tuesday) all in ONE in 2021!
?? History/Time Stamps ??
In 1994, ShopKo opened the third and last Colorado location in Fort Collins. In the process, they would also built a new Ruby Tuesday restaurant on the outskirts of the property, forming a very small plaza-like space. Eleven years later, all three Colorado Shopkos closed for good, leaving this location abandoned. Simultaneously, a nearby plaza called the Boardwalk Plaza Condos would be built in 2004, and part of it would recieve a remodel in 2006.
Also in 2006, JCPenney relocated from the nearby Foothills Fashion Mall, now known as the Foothills Mall, in October. During its life span in its third FoCo location, the Ruby Tuesday would close in September of 2016 along with many other locations in Colorado and across the US. About a year later, renovation began for what would soon be a Med Express, which opened on August 29th of 2018.
The year 2020 would arguably be a very challenging year for the area. In May, JCPenney filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, adding this store to close by September. While as a result of corona and the temporary corona closure, this date was pushed to October 18th 2020, Med Express would not last that long. They closed all their Colorado locations around the end of September including the FoCo one, a solid couple weeks before this JCPenney.
Today, while the nearby Boardwalk Plaza Condos continue to thrive seemingly with no connection to JCPenney other than the parking lot entry, JCPenney and Med Express sit vacant and in perhaps much worse condition than one might expect. Hopefully something can reuse all of this space soon!

Dance Spirit Studio's first location at the Frontier Mall was in the former AT&T in the food court--what was once a Timeout Arcade. Dance Spirit closed at that location in 2020. Now in late 2022, they are setting up shop in the former Crazy 8, most recently occupied by Custom Land. I forget what came before Crazy 8, which would have opened (if I recall correctly from my childhood) sometime in the 2010s.

I owe you all an apology. I messed up. To be clear, I am not saying a state-based expansion won't happen- very much the opposite; it is definitely possible to happen at some point... just not right now.
Until such time that an expansion on a state or country basis is possible, I intend to focus on the areas that matter most - SE Wyoming, SW Nebraska, and Northern Colorado.

At some point between August 2022 and January 2023, Cheyenne's Party America has relocated to the former Sears Hometown! This store is not to be confused with Party City, a larger chain with locations throughout the US.
Unfortunately at the time of recording, the new location is temporarily closed due to a family emergency, so I was unable to confirm when they moved.

Northglenn's Abandoned Payless Shoe Source Store No. 5731 is one of the many closures resulting from the 2017 filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.
By April 2017, the Northglenn store as well as the Lakewood and Sterling stores in Colorado had all closed perminantly. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find when this location opened.

? I found an abandoned KFC/Long John Silvers COMBO RESTAURANT in 2021! Here's what is left! (PS Thanks for 1.6K Subs!)
? As early as 2007, plans were already well underway to open some form of a Yum Brands restaurant, with Harmon Management Corporation bought the property late that year. In 2009, the Kentucky Fried Chicken and Long John Silvers Combo restaurant would officially be built.
? Unfortunately, between December 2018 and mid-2019, the Long John Silvers portion of this location was dropped. Soon thereafter by 2021, KFC also closed at this location, leaving the building sitting vacant and the windows papered.

The start of retail in 2021 is just around the corner, with 2020 coming to an end!! Here's a review of retail in 2020 and what you can expect from Optopolis on the topic of retail in 2021!
Optopolis plans to expand to more stores and restaurants, cities, and regions in the states of Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming and BEYOND in 2021. There will more rare finds and more local places that deserve to be documented.
Expect mall videos to officially begin in 2021. The time to document them is now, while they are still here, as many malls begin to fully lose momentum after the harsh year of 2020. It'll also be interesting to see what replaces tenants and even malls as a whole!
There is also anticipation of a HUGE expansion... SHHHHHHHH ?????

ShopKo Hometown / Pamida has been a part of Torrington since 1976. From what I can tell it was never a Gibsons, which was for a period, the same company as Pamida.
Although Pamida was bought out by ShopKo in 1999, it wouldn't convert to a ShopKo Hometown until the mid 2010s. As far as I know, it did have Payless Shoe Source products inside, but as there are not enough pictures and no outdoor signage indicating so, I can't confirm this at this location; if you know, Comment Below!
This location would close with the rest of the ShopKo and Payless brand in Early 2019. During Liquidation, Sonrise Church began setting eyes on this location, and by September 2019, they gained control of the property.
I did find photography taken inside here taken by Sonrise church. If interested, check it out here:
