The original ''Professionals' Call for an End to Water Fluoridation” (circulated from 2007- 2018) was triggered by the disturbing scientific evidence of fluoride's dangers as presented in the review of the toxicology of fluoride prepared by the U.S. National Research Council of the National Academies in 2006 (NRC, 2006). By October 2018 this has been signed by nearly 5000 professionals. On September 16, 2020, the National Toxicology Program released a draft monograph on the Systematic Review of Fluoride Exposure and Neurodevelopmental and Cognitive Health Effects. The report reconfirms that fluoride is "presumed to be a cognitive neurodevelopmental hazard to humans" while claiming that the evidence is stronger and more consistent for studies in which subjects were consuming water fluoride at or above 1.5 ppm.
