Using the THREE ACT STRUCTURE to Guide your Game's Narrative
ACCESS the FULL COURSE here: https://academy.zenva.com/product/game-design-academy/?zva_src=youtube-description-designthreeact

Learn how to write video games with the three act structure.

Utilized first and foremost by movies, the three act structure is a method of structuring plot lines to not only have a cohesive narrative, but also one that is engaging and compelling for its audience. This method of storytelling also applies to other media - including storytelling in video games.

This video will cover each act individually, teaching you all the fondations you'll need to enhance your storytelling for games. These acts consist of:

Act 1: Otherwise known as the exposition, this is where characters and conflicts are introduced.
Act 2: Called "rising action" in other structures, this consists of the main portion of the story where the character moves towards their goal and overcomes obstacles.
Act 3: The conclusion, where everything is wrapped up.

After these foundations, you will also take an in-depth exploration into Half-Life 2. Through this game example, you will see how each act of the three act structure is functionally and purposefully incorporated into the game design to create a specific narrative and game experience. You'll also learn techniques to help you explore other games further - allowing you to see how your favorite games are structured to tell the story they're telling.

Overall, through these techniques, you will enable yourself to see storytelling for video games in a whole new light! Not only will you gain skills that can aid you in writing more robust video game scripts, but will make the entire process of coming up with a plot that much easier.

Everything was designed with beginners in mind, so no game design experience is necessary to dive into the topic of storytelling for video games!
