Repairing a broken mitre on a picture frame made easy with pocket holes... once you know how.
Welcome to the first Fixit Fingers Quick Fix instalment. This series will be focused more on my handyman jobs rather than strictly woodwork, but I hope the tips come in useful. As usual, I'll be working them out as I go a lot of the time so will be able to demonstrate some novice pitfalls I encounter.
Today I figure out how to mend a frame I broke with my Kreg jig and after a few false starts actually succeed.
Recently my lovely little Wifie has developed an obsession for weed. Collecting it, stealing it from the neighbours, and now, growing her own. The plastic tub she uses to grow her weed is too big and heavy to move around to keep in the sun on our balcony, so she has asked for a little Weed Wagon to help her out. It is essentially a mobile plant stand / base / trolly thing for keeping pot plants or planter boxes on.
Sumo's Scrap Wood Challenge (#SPSWC2020) was the perfect excuse to break out some of the bed-slat hoard from my roadside scabbings and get creative with the new mitre saw station utilising the stop block, bevel and mitre features of the saw. It was a great fun little build that only took a few hours and could easily be adapted to your own horticultural needs!

Well, how the hell did that happen? Fixit Fingers Woodworking has hit the magical 1,000 Subscribers and as it customary here on YouTube, it is time for a small giveaway!
Fortunately, my mate Sumo has just launched a competition and asked me to be a guest judge! So, head over and watch his video "Sumo's Projects Scrap Wood Challenge" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcyxUMNEYfc for details.
After the publish date, I'll watch them all and pick my favourite entry which will win a Kreg Square-Cut! It was one of my first and most used tools, perfect for someone just starting their woodworking journey.
Use the #SPSWC2020 hashtag to catalogue your progress and entries! Slight bias may be given to those starting out who I know would find the Square-Cut most useful ;)

In this week's episode of Fixit Fingers Fivers, we look at the most important aspect of starting a woodworking hobby, Power Tools! Now we are talking HAND power tool, not larger bench tools like a table saw. They are smaller, cheaper, more accessible and a great place to begin your learning before moving on to the bigger investments.
After I list the 5 I believe you should start with, I'm going to discuss prices vs quality of budget (Work Zone / Ozito), DIY (Ryobi / Bosch Green), and Trade / Professional (Makita, Bosch Blue, Milwaukee, AEG, DeWalt, Rigid etc) level tools, as well as some side topics like battery vs corded. So stick around until the end.
Big Box DIY Level Tools - Get Building this Weekend! (Should Be Well Under AUD$500 Total)
A cordless Power Drill (Kit, with Batteries and Charger), a cordless Circular Saw, a corded Random Orbital Sander, a corded Jigsaw & a Trim Router (either cord or no)
However, if you want to help the channel out, you can order off Amazon.com.au & Amazon.com (USA) links below and I will get a small kickback at no extra cost to you! (These options are not as cheap as above, but a step up in quality, and usually what I personally use. Apologies Amazon.com.au doesn't have the range the USA does.):

Woodworking Jigs for your handheld power tools let you achieve more accuracy, speed and consistency, often replicating the functions of much larger more expensive machines like a table saw. In this Fixit Fingers Fiver, we'll look at some essential jigs for your circular saw and router that I think you should start with early on in your new hobby.
There are lots of great paid jigs out there, but in most cases, you can make DIY versions at a fraction of the cost, so I'll compare both options for you too.
This video is part of the #WoodJigs21 Aussie Challenge. Check out the playlist for all the entries and get involved! (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfJXcxjEOb3Kj_Q6WD2amRw1VBgulwXXf)

Now I have my #sharpening kit sorted, it needs a home. I love #workshop organisation projects and this one was good fun. Some scrapwood melamine from my clamping bench was all I needed and a couple of hours of work landed me this nifty little box with dividers for all my gear including the Veritas Mark 2 Honing Guide, Diamond Flattening Stone, Angle Finder, Marker & Pencils, Honing Compound and Water Stone Holder.
I even made an adorable little strop from a cow leather offcut and scrap of MDF. If you want to see what this sharpening kit is all about, check out my last video here: https://youtu.be/CGK4yiVQ0p8

@CarbatecTheHomeOfWoodworking sent me this cool-looking jig from Kreg that helps you get consistent corner profiles on your work. I had a few little issues with it, but if you are cutting a lot of corners it is certainly much faster than marking them all out and heading to the sander. Here are my first impressions and review.

So it is time for another challenge! This time @Dainer Made has set the #RubbishWood21 playlist up, make sure you click the hashtag to see all the entries. I was sent some scrap veneers of walnut and jarrah from Western Australia by Julian at Shaping Sawdust (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtXm2hA39OqxhmM7bO2F6Qg) and had this bookmark idea for a while. Now was the perfect time to combine them with some of my own thin offcuts to try out a few new things.
I was making it up as I went along and ended up incorporating both resin and for the first time ever, leather into the project. For me, the fun was in making the two jigs I needed to work with such thin and tiny bits of wood. My cutting jig and the DIY Drum Sander which will have its own video soon.
