What is the issue with post modernism? Why is it such a problem? In this video I try to break down the farming, axioms, limits and interpretation issues of the post modern attitude. I give a new way of understanding why it is a helpful set of tools, what better tools might look like and how to cooperate and participate better.
The idea of creating your own frame and being the authority over those who do the work is inherent in post modern ideas. These are very seductive ideas which allow our ego to take hold. The ability to have something like power as the result of merely observing from a limited perspective is very seductive, but not for the good.

Manuel and I cover a variety of topics, how we need to recognize our multiple identities, what we need containers for, how to find intimacy, object vs. subject. These are all key issues in understanding the world around us. We also explore flow state a bit further, it might not be purely positive.
Other explorations around middle out thinking, objective material reality, instant gratitude and spirit.
There is complexity in the world that we need to frame properly in order to make sense of things, to properly use our cognitive grammar to co-create awe and avoid horror. How are we related? How should we relate? How do we find agreement? Do we know what moves us? Why we do what we do?
These topics are all woven together throughout this delightful exploration of a variety of non-specific topics!

Something new, back with Manuel to look at the Intro to Game B video and break down what forms of enchantment, narrative capture and manipulation are going on here. We aren't making claims of good or bad when avoidable, but merely trying to show you the various tools being used in the video to influence the viewer.
This is an explanation born of many hours of work, including notes, reading the transcript, watching the video three times and lots of discussions with various folks. Hopefully our exploration will allow you to recognize some of the ways in which we are influenced and see some patterns of sense making that you can use to become aware of enchantment and narrative capture.

Another dialogos, exploratory conversation with Manuel Post (who has a wonderful YouTube channel linked below) on the concept of culture.
What is culture? How do we confuse it with fashion? The form and function of culture are important, the spirit of our cooperation matters for how we orient in the world. The rules and norms which we use to interface with one another are part of our distributed cognition for navigating the world at large.
What makes culture different from a mere cult? What are the pits we can fall into and how does culture help us to get out of these pits? A shared cultural frame is important because it provides flagpoles we use such as language.
A common set of axioms provides a perspective which culture helps to provide so that you can cooperate with others in terms of values. This allows us to rely on one another within a context that matters to us. Culture itself grounds us in virtue and values and binds us with a common perspective that enables better cooperation through time.
This was a lovely exploration of the concept of culture, how it enables right participation, distributed cognition, intimacy, affordance, context, perspective and grounding.

What do we mean by agency? How do we lend it to others? Why would we want to lend it to others? What does this do in the world?
We all are agents in the world with time, energy and attention. We also have our own unique perspective. These make us valuable to others in that we can lend some of our time energy and attention to leverage others to do more themselves. They can also reciprocate. In doing so, we make the world better for everyone. Lending agency is wrapped up in taking our time energy and attention and directing it to others in a way that helps them remember, respond, react and take actions in the world.
Here we'll explore the utility of this with examples and show how simple things that you do can enhance the lives of others while also enhancing your own life. Perspective isn't everything but it certainly is important to you and others.

What are monasteries? Do we need to know about them? What did they provide that we may not have today?
Where did those functions go?
The role of the monestary cannot be over stated. The government has taken over most of those functions but likely doesn't do as good a job with them! That has far reaching implications for society. More far reaching, however, is the loss of hierarchy as such, which creates domicide, not merely because you lose a place to go that you might fit in, but you also lose a sense for how to fit in and why.
