They Were SHOCKED When They Saw Who Was On The Tape…
When 59 year old Jack Parkes was found dead just weeks before his wedding in the summer of 2014, police quickly had a strong theory of the case. However, when the evidence just didn’t fit they were forced to re-evaluate their entire investigation, leading to a suspect that no one saw coming.

On the night of April 14th, 2007, a man named Ren Xiaofeng sat glued to his television in the Chinese city of Handan. He was counting down the seconds to that evening’s draw for the China Sports Lottery — one of the country’s two massive state-run lotteries — which was set to take place at 8:30 pm. While there was nothing particularly special about that night’s draw to the casual observer, the situation couldn’t have been more different for Ren, whose anxiety level was at an all-time high. He knew this was his last chance for a big score — his career, his family, and yes, even his freedom depended on it.
Finally, the moment came — the air was turned on and the little plastic balls began to flutter wildly in their transparent container. One by one the winning numbers leapt out and were announced. When it was all over Ren was stunned. He had won, but his life was still over. This is the bizarre and tragic story of Ren Xiaofeng, and the insane plot that led to China’s largest-ever bank heist.

Though many businesses have been suffering for the past couple of years due to ongoing restrictions placed on them in many places across the globe, one industry that has notably been thriving is the world of trading cards and collectibles.
While demand began to skyrocket almost as soon as we were all forced inside in 2020, the trend reached an absolute fever-pitch last year, especially when it came to collectible cards. Of course with this increased demand came soaring prices, bringing with it many people looking to cash in on the frenzy. And as retailers were swarmed with people looking to scoop up as many of these items as possible, it didn’t take long for an uglier side of the world of collectibles to come out.
In May of last year, a customer at a Target store in Brookfield, Wisconsin was walking to his car with sports cards he had just purchased when he was allegedly approached by 4 men who tried to rob him in the parking lot. He ended up drawing a gun on them and scaring them away without any injuries or shots fired, but the incident was still enough for the major US retailer to decide that it had had enough, and the in-store sale of MLB, NFL, NBA, and Pokemon cards was temporarily suspended. Similar stories have also emerged in other places, with card and memorabilia shops themselves becoming popular targets for robberies.
Being that both Luke and I have been into collectibles at one point or another in our lives, we thought that the whole thing might make an interesting topic for a video. When we did some digging, it turned out there were quite a few serious crimes that have involved collectibles over the years, 2 of which we decided to cover in today. Just a heads up, we’ll be dedicating an entire video to each one of these cases, so make sure to check out the description below for the link to the second case. There are also definitely other stories like these that we came across but that we didn’t have time to get to today, so if you want us to cover those in a future video, be sure to let us know in the comments section below. While you’re there, don’t forget to like and subscribe to Crime Zone for more true crime content like this, making sure to hit the notification bell to stay up to date with our latests releases. With that out of the way here are “2 Dark Crimes Involving Collectibles.”

If you’re a regular viewer of our Crimes of the Week series, then you’re probably aware that last year we released a couple compilations of some of the dumbest criminals and crime stories that we’d covered in 2021. Many of you told us you got a real kick out of these compilations, so we decided that this year we would try and do these videos quarterly so that we could include as many of these bizarre and entertaining cases as possible. As hard it is to believe, we’re already near the end of April, so that means that this week we’ll be taking a look at January to March of this year.
One thing to keep in mind is that these segments have not been edited since they appeared in their respective lists, so references to specific days of the week as well as other small details may no longer apply. If you like this video, be sure to stay tuned for another one covering the international edition of our show at the end of this week. If you’re missing regular Crimes of the Week though, don’t worry, we’ll be back next week with another video covering all new stories. With that out of the way, let’s get to the video.

If you’re a regular viewer of our channel, you might remember that back in July we covered 2 chilling stories of murder that took place in college dorm rooms. Because we always seem to find more cases that we can cover in our themed lists we occasionally like to revisit these topics to cover even more similar cases, and we figured what better time to do it than right after Labour Day, when many people are returning for a brand new school year. Today, we’ve got 2 more equally chilling cases for you that took place in college dorm rooms. Both of the stories were also chosen in part, because of their proximity to the beginning of the new school year.
Before we get to today’s video, we just wanted to take a quick moment to announce that we have officially passed 100,000 subscribers on the channel — we couldn’t be more grateful to all of you who have helped get us to this unbelievable milestone. Your support has meant the world to us, and we are constantly humbled blown away by how amazing all of you have been since we started the channel. As a thank you, we thought it would be fun to do some more viewer suggested cases in the next couple weeks, so be sure to drop any suggestions you have for us in the comments of this video.
