In this episode of the AIER Standard, Ethan Yang sits down with the incoming president of the Public Choice Society, Christian Bjørnskov, who is the author of an award-winning paper on the use of emergency powers. The conversation explores why and how emergency powers paradoxically cause greater problems during periods of crisis, the most recent being the Covid-19 Pandemic. Furthermore, Chris offers insight into how Scandinavian countries like Denmark and Sweden keep their political leaders accountable beyond legal limitations, which are ultimately just words on paper.
Chris is a professor at Aarhus University and a researcher at the Research Institute of Industrial Economics in Stockholm.

In marketing toward a cultural left, do corporations inadvertently undermine capitalism and provide cover for socialist forces?
Jeffrey Tucker joins CMA to discuss the role that corporations play in shaping our government and society.
He argues that the largest companies are often the least supportive of laissez faire capitalism. Regulators keep more agile, upstart competitors at bay, while established corporations have have the resources to comply with new rules and work with the government.
Jeffrey emphasizes the need for intellectuals to educate business elites about the ultimate morality of a truly free market.
He also discusses Trump's anti business sentiment, the trade war, and why lobsters are so affordable.

"This past week, Dr. Anthony Fauci shared a platform with a Chinese Communist Party “health expert,” and it went largely unreported by any Western media outlets. Chinese state media, on the other hand, could not get enough of it, because Fauci delivered a propaganda coup for the communist regime in Beijing."

Being financially literate does not mean having a fixed array of skills or a set of prescriptions for problems. It is knowing how to reason for yourself about financial matters. Economics is a system of applied logic specifically oriented to understanding and analyzing such matters. It provides the framework for effective financial reasoning. As such, it must be taught as the basis for financial literacy.
