Ahead of a civil disobedience action that left dozens arrested in the capitol, actress Jane Fonda - along with fellow actresses Rosanna Arquette and Catherine Keener - held her fourth weekly climate change protest called "Fire Drill Fridays."
This week's theme was "Women Can't Wait," eluding to the effects climate change has on women specifically.

Friday September 11th marked the 42nd anniversary of the military dictatorship in Chile.
Armed forces bombed the presidential palace, La Moneda, in 1973, resulting in the ousting of d-elected president Salvador Allende and the beginning of Agosto Pinochet's 17-year reign.
In Santiago images of Allende and leftist-leaning slogans were seen outside of the Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez , which was used a detention center following the coup.
Candles and photographs surrounded the venue as hundreds honored the victims of what many call Chile's "dirty war."
It's estimated that over 40,000 were incarcerated at the soccer stadium during the regime.

News2Share editor-in-chief Ford Fischer was in the courtroom today for the first day of trial for people arrested on Donald Trump's inauguration day (January 20th). After the session adjourned, Fischer ran a livestream with Chip Gibbons of Defending Rights & Dissent and National Lawyers Guild‘s Kris Hermes to get their take on the case so far.
These are Ford's notes from the trial itself so far:
Prosecutors acknowledge that they don’t have evidence showing any of these defendants personally doing any of the things they’re charged with, but they say they don’t have to. The charges are based on the notion of collective guilt and conspiracy. In a sea of uniformly dressed and masked rioters, one is guilty of property damage or assaulting a cop even if they didn’t throw the brick or rock that caused it.
One journalist, two medics (one who is a nurse in her day job) and three alleged protesters each face 60 years in prison. The defense’s opening statements essentially all claimed something like “in this trial, you’ll see that people did bad things, but there’s no evidence my client did any of them.”
Alexei Wood (the journalist)’s attorney pointed out that prosecuting his client on the basis of recording and saying commentary that was unfavorable to the government is particularly egregious, and added that “the government has is cell phone and everything on it, and they still have nothing.” He used the phrase “disagreeable is not illegal” to hammer down the point that the government is prosecuting someone for not liking what they report.
The nurse’s attorney said that the government will keep trying to paint them as “a group” but her client will be found not guilty as an individual.
The first government witness was an Au Bon Pain manager whose restaurant window got busted. Protesters did $5790.40 of damage to his business, but none of his testimony or video incriminated any defendants. Alexei was seen outside as the damage was taking place. Camera in one hand, phone livestreaming in the other.
After, with the jury out of the room, the prosecutor argued that the specifics of an ACLU case shouldn’t be allowed to be discussed. There are allegations that police sexually assaulted arrestees, and the jury shouldn’t be allowed to hear that because it allegedly happened after the arrest, the state says. Judge agreed.
Finally a uniformed cop took the stand. Officer Ashley Anderson, who was assigned to a civil disturbance bike unit, was in a squad of eight. She testified that while she personally witnessed property damage and had a rock thrown at her, they didn’t arrest individual perps because they lacked manpower. She described feeling “helpless.” They then played the bodycam video of her would-be injury.

Protesters gathered this afternoon in Amman, Jordan to condemn President Donald Trump's decision to move the American embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Nathan Templeton, an American University student abroad in Jordan, captured the images this afternoon. He says many of the chants claimed Jerusalem was stolen as the capital city from the Palestinian people. Although Templeton couldn't translate all the chants, many were in reference to Donald Trump.
"I didn't talk to anyone," Templeton said. "I was pretty afraid and I heard someone in Arabic aggressively yelling 'where are the Americans?'"
Templeton added that emotions were palpable, and children were involved. Protesters set fire to Israeli flags.
Templeton says the protest was actually organized by the Muslim brotherhood.

A handful of participants in Saturday's "End Domestic Terrorism" rally spoke out Sunday morning in a rally in front of Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler's House.
The activists say Wheeler has allowed violence to occur on the streets and targeted conservative activists for arrest, while allowing their political rivals - antifa - to act with "impunity."
The protest was led by Haley Adams, who is currently running to replace Wheeler as mayor.
Update on August 20, 2020: Right-wing activist Skyler Jernigan was arrested Wednesday in a shooting that took place on August 15, 2020. Jernigan is visible in this video wearing a camo "Trump 2020" ballcap.

As protesters waited outside, white nationalists and others entered the Charlottesville Circuit Court throughout the day to watch preliminary hearings related to "Unite the Right." Alex Michael Ramos (charged with assaulting Deandre Harris), Richard Preston (charged with firing a gun less than 1000 feet from a school), and James Alex Fields all had their charges confirmed for their roles in Charlottesville.
Fields' ten felonies previously included one court of second-degree murder, which has now been enhanced to first degree.
Outside, Ku Klux Klan members were confronted as they entered to support Preston, while Jason Kessler, the organizer of Unite the Right, was called a "murderer" and told to leave the city.
Kessler is not charged with any crimes pertaining to the rally.
Charlottesville Vice Mayor Wes Bellamy said that the city is trying to move forward and correct its wrongs, but that that's a hard thing to accomplish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GasTvg2Ono
Jason Kessler blamed the violence on antifa, going so far as to say Heather Heyer's blood is "on their hands."
The two exchanged loud words before being separated by the police.

Note from Ford Fischer: I took this footage from a rooftop on 16th Street in Washington, where you would typically get a clear view of the White House, Washington Monument, and Jefferson Memorial.
Here you can see how much smoke from the Canadian wildfires fogs the capital city.
