Uganda’s badminton duo of Husinah Kobugabe and Gladys Mbabazi have won Uganda its first gold medal at the belated 2023 African Games in Ghana.
The Ugandan girls that are now the toast of Accra and many parts of Uganda beat the fancied duo of Algerians Halla and Tanina in a close contest that kept many at the multi-purpose hall at the Borteyman sport complex on tenterhooks.
Husinah Kobugabe isn’t done yet because in a few hours from now, she will feature in the badminton singles final.
Badminton also won a bronze medal earlier today when Fadilah Shamika lost at the semifinal stage of the singles category.
This brings Uganda’s tally of medals to three with the other medal being a bronze from swimmer Muzito Gloria from the 100m freestyle last night.
Uganda sent more than 100 athletes from 17 disciplines at the games where competition is in 28 sports some of which are Olympic Games qualifiers.
