Dog Birthdays + RVing Mexico Round Two Preparations Begin! | Newstates in the States
Piper & Ella are 7 years old and new RV in Mexico adventures are just around the corner! We prepare to apply for Mexican Temporary Resident visas while extending our free camping streak (3 months so far!) here in Colorado.

This week we stayed lakeside at the beautiful Williams Fork reservoir (near Hot Sulphur Springs), part of the Denver Water system. These totally free campgrounds are scattered around central Colorado, and typically boast fantastic water views, pit toilets, trash service, and sometimes even a free dump station for RVs! Ironically, none of the Denver Water campgrounds we've stayed in yet have drinking water (weird, right??).

It was Piper & Ella's (your favorite RVing Puggles™) turn to celebrate, they both turned 7 years old! We celebrated with extra treats, love, and a trip to a nice (muddy) dog park near Silverthorne, CO. They had a grand time until the outdoor baths started.

As our Newstate Navigators have known for several months, we're planning to returning to Mexico! This week, we kick off the preparations by collecting and printing all the paperwork we will need to complete the Mexico Temporary Resident visa (TR) applications. We decided back in June to go the route of temporary residents instead of tourist visas because unfortunately due to COVID-19 you can no longer drive past the "free zone" areas along the US/Mexico border (and Baja) unless it is deemed an "essential activity" (translation: business purposes, emergencies, government sanctioned, etc). Every month since March, the USA, Canada, and Mexico continue to extend their driving bans, recently extended to October 21st, and it seemed too risky to chance whether the ban would be lifted. We decided to take the time (and higher fees) to apply for TR, as it will give us freedom to travel across the border for 1 year from when we reenter Mexico. A typical tourist visa is valid for 6 months, and is available for those who fly into Mexico, which still surprises us a little that there should be a difference between driving and flying into the same country? Regardless, the process begins OUTSIDE Mexico, at a Mexican consulate or embassy. Since we are in Colorado, we chose to schedule our appointment in Denver! More information on the process will be coming in future episodes, but in summary this phase requires providing paperwork proving that you can financially support yourself without the need to seek local employment while a temporary resident of Mexico.
