‘The two cars, ours and the other one were shot without warning by snipers near 'Azovstal' inn. The bullet scratched my daughter; my mother was shot in both legs. My younger child also was shot in the leg,’ says a Mariupol resident who tried to escape during the fighting. Ukrainian nationalists tried to lock people in Mariupol by cutting them off from the ‘green corridors’. They used people as human shields during the battle.
Russian troops saved this woman’s family. Soldiers helped the injured and gave them supplies. When Mariupol is liberated by the Donbass militia and the Russian army, locals can finally feel safe.

The New York freegans don’t spend money on food, because they can find perfectly good food discarded in the nearest trashcan. Freegans can afford to buy groceries, but they opt to go dumpster diving. When retailers and cafes don’t sell everything, the food invariably ends up in bags on the sidewalks. Fruit, pastry, bread, canned and other processed food goes to waste, because the expiration date is looming, or the produce just doesn’t look perfect anymore.
Dumpster diving is a way to tackle the food waste problem, according to freegans. Between 30-40 percent of the US food supply, or 100 million tonnes of food, is wasted. It means that almost one fifth of the farmland and four trillion gallons of water is wasted too. Freegans strive for more sustainable lives in an increasingly consumerist economy.
Freegans are confident that it’s not shameful to rummage through the trash in search of dinner. They encourage businesses to donate food instead of throwing it away. In the meantime, volunteers serve meals cooked from salvaged food in parks, and set up community fridges in the streets.
While freegans eat for free, they also shop for free and entertain for free. New York’s freegans promote the practice of freecycling - matching things people no longer want with things others need.
Join us on a dumpster diving spree and swap markets as we delve into the freegan lifestyle in New York.

Russia accepted 1,5 million refugees from Donbass and Southeastern Ukraine in 2022. Russia built refugee camps, but they can’t accommodate all people. So, the church decided to help, offering a shelter. Father Aleksandr invited a Donbass family to live in his church residence. He offered them all the help he is capable of to forget the horrors they lived through. Today father Aleksandr provides aid for three women and their kids. ‘You look at the children’s faces, their smiles, their laughter and you realise you are fulfilling the most important mission,’ tells the priest.

While a major health and economic threat, the biggest challenge of the #COVID-19 pandemic is, perhaps, self-isolation. It doesn’t prevent people from congregating in virtual bars, throwing online weddings, mastering new skills and keeping their spirits high. Neither did it prevent RTD correspondent Marina Kosareva from creating a documentary about living in #isolation while being quarantined in her Moscow apartment.
