Human Trafficking Survivor Kelly Patterson, author of the book, "From Trafficked to Treasured," speaks about Ring Sex Trafficking in America. This should be a concern to every parent in America.
Kelly said that one of the biggest markers that makes a child vulnerable to human trafficking is not being close to his or her dad. To phrase it differently, when a child has a strong relationship with his or her father, this helps reduce human trafficking.
This single fact should influence legislation regarding unilateral (forced) divorce and shared parenting after a divorce. Too often state legislatures have pass statutes that effectively end up destroying families and making the father a "visiting parent" - in order to extort child support payments from him - under the guise of "the best interest of the child." Statutes of this nature are nor merely perverse and immoral, but they facilitate human trafficking.
For example, in the state of Texas - purportedly one of the states that has launched campaigns against human trafficking - the data as of November 29, 2020, directly from the Office of the Attorney General, indicates that in over 88 percent of the custody arrangements after divorce, the father is made to be a visiting parent - thus facilitating child vulnerability to human traffickers. There is something inconsistent and hypocritical when a state creates children vulnerable to being trafficked, and then claims to fight against human trafficking after they've facilitated the trafficking.
