For our first ride of the cool season, we take a run north-west of the city to Bann Pai Na Cafe. It was a fun ride and the food here was excellent so worth the trip out. I certainly have missed the riding scene for the last 9 months so maybe things will change now that the weather is cooling down.
I chose early retirement instead of working the 40 40 40 plan and now I'm living stress-free as an Aussie ex-pat living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend. Our Video Blog covers the typical things we find ourselves doing as we build our life together living in the suburbs of Bangkok. My fiancée is a post-op ladyboy and we have been together since 2009. I finally moved to Thailand in September 2016 because the 8 years of travelling to see her were taking its toll. We hope we will give you a unique perspective on Thailand life and lifestyle as we go about our daily life and sometimes explore the Land of Smiles. We took a short drive down the road to have dinner at another restaurant that we've passed often. The food was great as usual and the atmosphere was wonderful with the live music.

Over the last few years, we've managed to find a few special gems out west of Bangkok and this new restaurant was the latest find. Chanya found a post from one of her friends that mentioned this place so we took a trip back out to Nakhon Pathom for lunch. The place has become popular for the range of special treats for all those with a sweet tooth or a chocolate fetish. I can certainly agree that this place will help anyone stack on a few extra pounds that's for sure.
I would say that the place is better described as a coffee shop which is the listing on Facebook, but given the menu selection, I would better describe it as a boutique restaurant of sorts. It really sits somewhere between the two but it certainly is a tranquil setting and a great place to bring the kids. For us, it was a perfect 2-hour getaway where we could hang out and spend some time together which doesn't happen so much these days.

Sinakharin Lake was formed when Thailand dammed the Khwae Yai River in Si Sawat District of Kanchanaburi Province. Our ride today takes us along the eastern side of Sinakharin Lake and up to the ferry at Si Sawat.
Today's ride was quite a long one and I think the longest ride I've done since I got the bike. Given all the curves and bends on the route, I might have done better taking Chanya's CB650F. The Vulcan is not really suited to winding roads at high speed like sports bikes. I am really going to need to investigate getting a gel seat modification for these long rides though.
Anyway, we took the scenic route around to Si Sawat and stopped for lunch at a floating restaurant. Actually, I don't think you could call it a restaurant, it was more like a houseboat with a lot of seating. Our meal was mainly fish, but it was fresh and absolutely delicious.
Once we finished our meal, we took the ferry across and rode home. The cold shower when I got home was just the ticket for those sore muscles!

One of the most interesting cultural anomalies in Thai culture is the idea that wearing different coloured clothes can be good or unlucky for you. Although Wednesdays are good for wearing Green, she wanted to know why I wouldn't wear Pink so that we could be matching. Well, what can I say! Boys just don't wear pink darling! Hahaha
But it is interesting to know that colour does play a significant role in Thai life so I thought it would be a good idea to cover this today.
Sunday Colour - Red (Unlucky colour - Blue)
Monday Colour - Yellow or Cream (Unlucky colour - Red)
Tuesday Colour - Pink (Unlucky colour - Yellow or White)
Wednesday Colour - Green (Unlucky colour - Red)
Wednesday Night Colour - Grey (Unlucky colour - Orange Red)
Thursday Colour - Orange or Brown (Unlucky colour - Purple)
Friday Colour - Light Blue (Unlucky colour - Dark Blue or Black)
Saturday Colour - Purple or Black (Unlucky colour - Green)

Living in Thailand is not without some annoying problems that's for sure, but to be honest, the problems we have simply don't make the place less enjoyable to live in. There is no perfect place to live on this planet in my opinion but the problems we have here are the kind that simply doesn't bother us at all. Well, maybe a little, but I'd rather have these problems than a government oversight where everyone is wrapped in cotton wool for our own protection as is the case in Australia. When you live in Thailand, you need to take care of yourself and get used to all the red tape and paper-pushing which is the way here. A simple task like resolving lost documentation with the DLT can take 1/2 a day to resolve which was the case we had last Monday. Everything here in Thailand is computer recorded, but the paper-pushing through government systems creates jobs so you'll have to get used to it. Of course, these things aren't everyday problems and the lack of a Nanny State regime like Australia makes it so much more enjoyable!

If you have spent any time living in Thailand, you'll already know food is the most essential part of Thai society. The best part about food here in Thailand is that you rarely need to cook for yourself as you'll find pop-up food stalls everywhere. We are on the cusp right now where Thai eateries will once again be open for sit down food so someone else will have to deal with the washing up. It's been 2 months since the lockdown measures were introduced and I feel we're all suffering from cabin fever so things might get back to some normality soon. One thing is certain though and that is that Street food is still an essential part of Thai life. The daily run to find food is also quite unique here compared to our modern western society. I'm sure we'll get our snowflakes having their say about their safety concerns, but that's ok because we're living free here in Thailand and they aren't!
