The Epistle from the Church at Rome to the Church at Corinth with Stephen Boyce
Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/ I was joined by Dr. Stephen Boyce of City Light Church who has been doing a great deal of in-depth study into “1 Clement,” and we spent over an hour delving into this wonderful early Christian writing. Well, it was actually OVER two hours long, and I still did not finish up, but we made good progress. First I responded to Evangelist Ted Alexander’s comments wherein he not only identified Reformed theology as fundamentally Roman Catholic, but said I am a Catholic, and a plant in the church, etc. and etc. So, we demonstrated he is suffering from some serious cognitive dissonance to be sure. After that full refutation of his claims we moved back to Leighton Flowers and moved into the section where he proves, repeatedly that Provisionism has not efficacious grace. He has passive, powerless, unintentional provisions, but no powerful, purposeful, intentional grace. We will finish up our response to him later, but may not dedicate an entire episode of RFG to it, we will see.
Did about 90 minutes today on a variety of topics but with a bit of a connected theme, digging into the text of John 3:13 as well as looking at Turretin's discussion of the two natures of Christ. Finished up looking at the amazing behavior of folks on line in response to a new theological journal.

Went a bit long today, but, lots to talk about, and my voice wasn't real good, so I had to slow down a bit! In any case, first hour was on the Dicastery document released yesterday that caused such a stir, then we switched over to a summary of developments over the weekend with the "Neo-Socinian" allegations. Jumbo sized program today!

Quickly mentioned some of the evidence of the rise of totalitarianism in the United States, then made note of some of the wild videos showing a huge response to our addressing Hebrew Israelism, and finished up with a rather passionate response to JD Hall and Christian News and the attack upon Apologia Church.

On the way home from a month on the road, catching up on a few items such as the re-ignition (by one side) of the "Federal Vision" controversy, etc. Then we went through ten points raised by Dr. Van Kleeck in posts written since our debate.

Covered a bunch of topics today on the program—a few announcements about the upcoming debates in Salt Lake City and in Australia started us off. Then we looked at some comments from Bassam Zawadi regarding the view of some Christian apologists of the Bible and the resurrection. Also looked through Romans 8:31-34 in response to Dr. David Allen’s assertion that there are no texts in Scripture that connect atonement and election. But most of my time was focused upon the controversy that came up when Drew Brees recorded a completely innocuous little video about bringing your Bible to school. Well, it was posted by Focus on the Family, and since Focus hasn’t been willing to bow the knee to the LGBTQ deity, well, Drew must pay. Talked about persecution in the early church, different types of apostasy, and how each Christian today must decide when Caesar is demanding we bow the knee in areas where we simply cannot today. Yeah, I know. I did warn everyone beforehand saying this would be a seminary-level program, and, well, it was. Just a little discussion of today's journey and where I am before getting into Gregory's confession of faith once again. For some reason I really felt like I need to provide a lot of background information today, so, I did. After spending some time with Gregory I moved over to the Islamic area and started working toward making the case that the Qur'an does, in fact, misrepresent the Christian faith, and in particular, the Trinity, but again I spent so much time giving background information I never even got started! But we will get into it. If you like this kind of study, you'll enjoy this one. Or, if you are having trouble sleeping, well, it might help with that, too! This program primarily focused upon the comments made by David Gushee in reference to his abandonment of a consistently biblical view of homosexuality, Matthew Vines’ Twitter comments demanding the celebration of homosexuality, and then (switching gears), Austin Fischer and Romans 9.

This will be my only program this week—don’t worry, we have a special guest filling in on Thursday (I have to head out of town quickly). So we went long, a full two hours. Covered a ton of topics from Pope Francis’ call for “believers of all religions” to join in asking God to “help us” with coronavirus, Dan Barker’s bad argument against the Christian faith due to a bad theology of prayer, and another bad, bad tweet from the Bad, Bad Twitter Man (me) wherein I once again failed to buy into the social justice narrative (oh, and one caller who went rounds with Rich showing that, like so many, he is controlled by his emotions rather than his mind). Then the last hour we went back to “Wilson vs. Augustine Actual,” reading comments from Wilson and then going to the cited Augustinian sources.
