Processing birds for the first time in several years. A neighbor had gotten eggs and hatched them expecting that they'd build a coope etc while they were incubating. They didn't so they gave them to me, and as it turns out there were SIX roosters in the 9 chicks that survived (out of 11).
I processed the three on this day hoping to keep 2, and then another bird started crowing... I'll likely process him and the louder of the two I intended to keep.
In any event, the 'take away' from this experince though was very much tjhat you MUST scald the bird! I'd been told by someone years back that it doesn't make that much of a difference and don't waste your time.
I did the first bird and thought it had been MUCH more difficult than the ones I'd done at one of Jack Spirko's Survival Podcast (TSPC.co) events in West Virginia, so I pulled out the propane burner and heated up enough water and scalded and then plucked the next bird.
A HUGE difference, even the parts I had to hand pluck, but the Power Plucker made short work of them (
