Fun little UFO toy - can't remember what its called - increadible to think battery power is now so efficient it can power little flying machines.

NOTE 'camera strobing' is making the turbines appear to be spinning forwards or backwards and sometimes stopping - they are actually running fast. Wind Generators doing their stuff, I was assisting with a turbine under development, its the left hand small turbine on the tower, to the right is a Rutland 913, and behind is a Windsave. the anemometers for the computerised wind speed logger are visible too. The other tower is also hosting one of the test units. The tail fins are too short - a meter long boom with a small fin is better.

This is the legendary British Lister Diesel engine, still made in India, the Indian engines are affectionately known as the Listeroid. see http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Westmill-coop/ for more details. There are many of these engines still about, the best thing is, they can be run on waste vegetable oil, and are very efficient and a delight to live with - lovely! :-))
The best engines ever.: Lister (and all the current Indian copies).

Alas the video is rubbish as I was distracted by the planting process - and keeping my hands out of the machine!

The MK2 CVt demonstrates that it has enough power to ping the pink drive clip off, I don't need so much torque, so I ended up rebuilding it without the reduction gear on the ratchet, as it happens, if I'd put another pink clip on the back of the final drive cog, it would have been ok.

Remerkable colour change bulb bought off ebay. The remote can be used to turn it on, or off, set a range or colours, four brightness levels and even four different types of automatic colour change modes - fun little item.

Hi good friend, I've put this clip on here to show you the dramatic start to our movie (should we ever actually suceed in making it!!). This is shot using a cheap camera from a limited angle shot, better technology would give a much better effect. Mine is a very 'butch' industry - ideal as an intro in to a movie about a subject that many regard as something that only wimps suffer from - depression :-)

The Hammersmith Flyover structural problem explained with a very quickly made simplified model, the structure is a series of concrete sections, clamped together with steel cables, the cables have been discovered to be rusting, and some have actually snapped according to reports seen on the internet. The structure is 'Post tensioned' meaning that the concrete sections are assembled in to place then the cables tensioned afterwards. The simplified demonstration model is made from Fischertechnik. Enjoying the spinning shadows at Westmill Wind Farm -a wind farm standing on the factory floor of agribusiness -err I meant the beautiful countryside! :-)) The turbines make about as much noise as their shadows! On a more serious note, sometimes these shadows can fall on houses, as is demonstrated on other videos, if this should happen, the wind farm operators should be obligated to assist the house holders with small grant help to fix the problem, i.e. by buying curtains or even window shutters that can be lowered on the odd occasion the sun is out when its behind a far off turbine. Shadow flicker must be the only real reason you shouldn't put turbines too close to people with out serious discussions, even to the point of offering to pay all the expenses of moving the occupiers to a better place. Energy security issues are getting so serious, turbines are going to become essential to our way of life, so we need to deal with these issues in the same way we would a new motorway or other development.
turbines are a major means of saving fuel, so problems such as shadow flicker (layout, planning, remedial works), and bird strikes (bird scarers), need to be fixed as part of the operation of the plant - this needs to be all sorted out at the planning stage. The clouds of steam coming out of a power plant can cause intermittent shading of the sun. Shadows are sooo dangerous, I risk my life being 'shadow flickered' every time I make a movie. If the shadows don't get me, 'Wind Turbine Syndrome' (what b*****ks) might!! Funny that, I work at a huge power station, but no one has ever heard of 'bloomin huge power station syndrome'?!?! ;-)) PS the image stablising software ( the one youtube provides as a video editing option) does ge a bit caught out sometimes - hence the image twitching on some of the shots.
