Scanlines by Todd Keisling is a very dark novella from Perpetual Motion Machine Publishing. Terrifying, especially to those who have tumbled down the wrong rabbit holes online, late at night, or when you were too young.
“We were ghouls in a graveyard, digging up a dead man’s grave for closure. We never considered he might want to stay buried.”
From the back cover: "...No one has ever seen the supposed Duncan Tape, presumably because it doesn't exist. It's a ghost story perpetuated on the forums and chat rooms of the internet, another handful of bytes scattered across the Information Superhighway at blistering 56K modem speeds.
For Robby and his friends, an urban legend is the last thing on their minds when a boring Friday night presents a chance to download porn. But the short clip they watch turns out to be something far more graphic and disturbing, and in the coming days, they'll learn even the most outlandish urban legends possess a shred of truth..."

Today on Typical Books with Lydia we have Voices in the Snow by Darcy Coates.
This was published in 2020 via Poisoned Pen and is the first part of the Black Winter series.
Clare meets Dorran under the wildest of circumstance. Normally, when a story is at its heart a girl-meets-boy story I balk. I bail. I barf. But not here, as it is more of a girl-meets-house like many Coates novels are.
I can relate to so much of this - driving in the most hellish of winter, being stranded in the cold, dealing with distance between family members be it physical or not. I’ve no real experience with the heart of this story, however, which is a true monstrosity, and it is played out very well.
There are some minor plot questions and some minor gardening, time, and physics questions I had but these are small compared to the scope and plot as I enjoyed it all very much. I could guess that half of my questions would be answered had I re-read back a little instead of ploughing forward, but it was a compelling page-turner if there is one.
Looking forward to the next book in this series and I’ve rarely ever wanted to read a series so that is saying quite a bit!
5/5 - Book Scorer hit 95 with a bonus as I feel I will have a soft spot for this one, always
